How many got tired of waiting for the R1 release of P2 and went and bought the UK sphere set even though it's R2? I bought my sphere set just before P2's R1 release was announced but wasn't that annoyed when I learned it would have no features. One of the reasons I bought the sphere set was knowing it would have many features the R1 release wouldn't and come on, that sphere looks awesome on a video shelf!
I'm only able to watch it on my laptop since I don't wanna change the region settings on any of my players, which are just like computers. If you change it five times it'll lock into the last region, lame! I need to find a Region 0 player so this problem can be eliminated, just need to find one for a reasonable price from a valid store.
At this point I have simply put all the R1 DVD's into the sphere with the R2 P2, don't feel the need to get the bare bones R1 version. How's the quality on that? Was it a cheap VHS transfer or a decent digital remaster like the others?
Also does anyone know the specifics of how/why Anchor Bay UK was allowed to release the series with P2 included given the whole Universal situation? Seems ridiculous they would give a foreign market the rights but not the US. Also I'm wondering who owns the rights to each Phantasm. I remember MGM for P1, Universal for P2 and P3 I believe (their logo was on both VHS covers) and Orion for P4. I guess Anchor Bay controls P1, 3 and 4 today. Does Don have any control over distribution stuff?

Well, I did. I was bummed to find out that PAL speeds the film up to 25 fps (frames per second) resulting in a higher pitch. And now for several things: -Phantasm II was released by Universal in the US and by a different (possibly defunct) distributor outside the US which is why it was easy for AB UK to obtain the rights. -The R1 DVD's transfer is astoinishing! Miles better than the UK transfer. It may only have a trailer and 2.0 Stereo, but it's worth the upgrade. -In the US, Don and Anchor Bay own Parts III and IV and Universal owns Part II. As of 2014, Anchor Bay lost US rights it seems as the website doesn't give the film a DVD listing. -Don and Starway International own international rights to the films. -Since Universal didn't have anything to do with III (although they did distribute it) it was easy for Don to keep the rights. Which is why Anchor Bay US released it. Finally, welcome to the forums!

I bought mine when it 1st was released. I bought a region free DVD player on Ebay....it wasnt expensive......id recommend anyone to get one...there are SO MANY dvds from overseas worth having I bought a multi-region blu-ray player a while back so I could get the extended editions of the Dragon Tattoo trilogy as well as Forbrydelsen (the original The Killing.) I bought the Phantasm sphere 5 disc set, mostly for that 5th disc of special features not available in any R1 release. I also advise anyone to get a multi-region player. If you don't want blu-ray, they are very cheap. For my blu-ray, I think I paid something like $120 on Amazon. Some of the UK releases have stuff we don't have. For instance, there is a Creepshow, 2 disc DVD edition with an enjoyable audio commentary from Romero and Savini and many other extras. Over here, even the blu-ray doesn't have s**t for special features. Also, the only way to get the John Carpenter/ Bridges commentary on Starman is to get a non R1 version.

Well yeah III and IV sure but look closely; underneath each title it would say "DVD" (or "Blu-ray" or both). Phantasm has no "DVD" underneath.

I used to have the sphere set, but I'm one of those people that likes to have their movies match. So I sold it and bought the normal r2 set, that way it goes on the shelf along with all my other movies. I might end up getting the sphere again down the road. I really need to get a region free player. I've been using my pc, but it only changes regions so many times before locking out.

The R2 set isn't necessary since they are now available on R1...

Well, there's still the uncut Phantasmagoria documentary, Phantasm Genesis, Phandom, Phantasmagorical Mystery Tour (AKA Reggie's Phantastic Tour), and the 1993 Convention Easter Egg which are only available on the set's bonus disc and not yet available in the US.
