I found the movie because of Wikipedia. I was in search of one of my favourite games, "Blood". Then I found that dwarfs, Morningside cemetery, morgue textures etc. was taken from Phantasm. I thought "Phantasm? What Phantasm?" and started to surf around YouTube. Ilearned Phantasm is an old movie, I liked it already because old movies often better than modern. Then I found the movie quotes and scenes and I liked them so much I downloaded all the four movies. After I watched the first one, I was like "... Masterpiece". The story, characters, detail level, music - everything is perfect. It's not even a horror movie, actually single scene that scared me was "The funeral is about to begin. Sir!". Anyways, being a Minecraft fan, I heard about Herobrine (mysterious ghost that haunts the game, creator of the game says he don't know anything about him so it makes Herobrine even scarier) and while I was searching for videos of sightings of this ghost I found a top-comment: "Herobrine is Minecraft's Slender Man. Thumbs up if you agree." I didn't know about Slender Man. "Who is Slender Man? I must know it" - thought I. Then... He's a really, REALLY scary urban legend, an inhumanly tall, slender figure, faceless, dressed in black formal suit. He steals children or stuff, and nobody knows what he does to them - maybe eats them, or takes them to unknown area or even dimension. He also stalks someone trying to make him his ally. Anyone familiar?

Totally heard about this (actually through this forum I think) and it is creepy as hell. There's a vid on Youtube about it all with various photos capturing this. Didn't know about the minecraft thing, will have to check that out!
Welcome!!

This is so cool! Seriously creepy. And so many similarities to Phantasm's Tall Man. From the dates online, it definitely looks like Slender Man came along after Phantasm (the earliest mentions in the fictional (?) stories go back to the early 1980's. The picture of the kids in the playground--the Slender Man looks so much like the outline of the Tall Man (except for the creepy spider arms). tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheSlenderManMythos

Guys... I'm really scared now. I got this when created Slender Man directory on my mobile phone: Yes, my Windows is in Russian, but you can understand the size of files. SIX+ GB. My memory card is 2GB or less! And yes, my antivirus says nothing when I scan the directory, so it's not a virus... Directory can't be copied or deleted at all. But what is it then?

I've been a big fan of the Slender Man for years. It's very interesting, but I don't buy a lick of it. Still, it makes for some creepy stuff.

I never saw my friends so scared. I just weared the funeral suit and walked from the dark street. Wearing a faceless mask. What a pity I didn't film it. It was epic.

Ah yes, the Slender Man. One of my favourite Internet memes. ;D I always thought he was based on Phantasm's Tall Man, from the similar name and dress sense right down to the idea of him being a creature from another dimension and the idea that the Slender Man plays mind games with you, blurring dreams and reality and will destroy you if you get too nosy for your own good. I guessed that Surge had used images of the Tall Man for Slendy(his nickname...and Phantasm fans nickname the Tall Man "Tally"... funny...) In many Slender Man images, if you look closely, you can tell that Slendy is a shooped version of the Tall Man. Also, welcome flybat! How you felt when watching the first Phantasm film was exactly the same as how I did.

If you go and read Slenderman's background, there's a vid over on youtube if you all don't want to read it all, but in the backstory, Slenderman is said to have existed since the dawn of time. Many times during his existence he's been called The Tall Man. It pops up in the back story several times. Slenderman and The Tall Man are way too similar. They tend to use the same methods of stalking and can appear at will here and there. The first time I heard of Slenderman I though right away of The Tall Man. Also on Minecraft, besides the herobrine stuff, they also have their version called Enderman which is part of the game.

Is there a connection with Slender Man to Creepypasta and Marble Hornets?

I had never heard of the "Slender Man" phenomena until recently, it is rather uncanny how similar this ficticious character is to the Tall Man. Could he be inspiration for the Tall Man? Or vice versa? (cue spooky music)
