We need another movie to get things going.
Or maybe the release of the Phantasm book! Justin?

I agree. Phantasm 5 and/or Dustin`s long awaited book would definitely liven up the forum. But as with all things in the world of Phantasm ,it`s a matter of waiting.

i have been thinking on this subject myself. i can honestly say i do not want the forum going anywhere, i think in itself it is an important part of the the history of Phantasm. i do realize it is hard to daily, or at least weekly to find new things to talk about within 4 movies, the newest being 15 years old. i think the future of Phantasm lies within fan based stories, collections, art, etc. if someone has any ideas on to turn on the magic again, now is the time...

Would shooting the low-budget Phantasm-5? Like part 4. What is the budget John Dies at the End?
I always was willing to make a collective contribution of the film. If 1,000 fans will give 100 bucks, will 100.000, and if will join Bubba Ho-TEP fans and John Dies at the End fans. Maybe it's not so simple. But as an option.

Still don't understand why they can't do a kickstarter on this. Seems like it would be easy to raise a decent budget. There's enough interest. Is it possible don has just run out of ideas?

Could be that the return profit on such an enterprise is less now than it was back in the day. It could be lack of interest (for lack of a better phrase) on the part of the cast and crew. Wasn't it last year Angus was quoted as saying he hoped Don was done with Phantasm and that it should end with Oblivion? I am sure turning out such a great franchise as Phantasm on a shoe string budget has just got to be tedious and nerve wracking at times. And this all brings back the "careful what you wish for", after all what could happen in 5 except "the end", answering all the questions and the final curtain call? i would love to see 5, and simultaneously it would be very sad to see the mystery end. i don't know what to make of it all, except i want to see this great franchise stay alive and be well remembered and loved as long as possible, and that is us, here in this forum. we are all, Mike, Jody, & Regg, battling against the Tall Man, in his form of mediocrity and dust-laden, forgotten movie bins...

I think you're right that there is enough interest for a reboot of sorts. There is a script, but as to how that would work in its current form, I don't know. I can't imagine how difficult it is to get funding from studios; with the new Riddick movie, Vin Deisel has actually taken a loan out against his house to part fund it (so if the movie bombs, he could lose his house) and it's taken a fraction to make of what the big superhero movies are costing ($40m instead of $240m).
I don't know how much a kickstarter project would make a dent in that bill, but I'm sure phans would do anything to see another movie. Don keeps mentioning things in the works and watch this space, but there's not much buzz since John Dies at the End finished. It's beginning be piss me off quite frankly. I just want closure of some sort.
I'm afraid for Angus too after his bout of recent illness. Having grandparents the same age I can see how illnesses really take their toll. I don't know how much longer Angus will decide to keep acting for. The only person I can think of that's still at it near his age is Christopher Lee (I think he's like 92 now). I'm sure Reggie and Mike would be up for it, but it's been so long between movies, would it seem a little strange?
I can't see Don going beyond number 5, but I would like one nevertheless.

It`s a shame that the administrators of this forum can even bother to drop in and make a post once a month, even if there`s nothing new to report in the world of Phantasm. I guess Tony and Dustin have better things to do,than watch this forum die a slow death.

As everyone else has stated the forum is dead due to the lack of any news. With out news there is a lack of life to the forum. It's the biggest reason why I stopped coming to the Forum. Back in the day I'd stop by every day and post. Now I feel everything has been discussed and it's like beating a dead horse anymore.
I'd love to see a part 5 but I've gotten on the reality train and have given up hope for this to come to be. So really I think the only way to let Phantasm live on is show it to the new generation like I intended to when I start having kids.

I guess Tony and Dustin have better things to do,than watch this forum die a slow death. Or they have other things going on in their lives such as work, school, family, etc. I'd say those are more important than an internet message board. I still lurk from time to time but I don't really have anything to say. I work a lot and when I'm not working, I'm spending lots of time with my girlfriend...soon to be fiancee....soon to be wife. I've talked about these movies for years and you get to a point where there's not much to talk about.

If there isn`t anything to talk about anymore, shut down the board and be done with it. I didn`t think taking a few minutes a month to make a post would infringe on the administrators precious time.

I know I'd rather keep the board up in case any new phans stumble upon this place or if something new pops up to discuss.
Maybe I'll talk to Dustin and Tony to see if they can spare some of their "precious time" to stop by. I gotta go though. I've spent too much of my precious time here today. Be back sometime.

Gremiin, I'm sorry to read about how you feel in regards to Dustin and myself. The simple fact is that it's up to the members of a forum to keep it active. I can't force anyone to post anything. Regardless of what you may think, admins do not have any mystical powers that make inactive forums based on something finite (like a series of films) spring back to life.
This forum is an excellent resource for any phan who might want to read deeper into the thoughts and opinions of other phans who have discussed, debated, and dissected the films to death.
So again, here's the "precious time" you wanted so badly. Let's see if it magically makes everyone want to post new topics.

I've been a member of the Phantasm forum's for about 10 yrs, pretty much since old John Klyza had his page running and then it changed and morphed into what it is today at this forum. Of late it is very quiet, but Goph is right, we are all responsible for the forum and keeping it alive, just in the same way that the phans must keep the idea of getting a final film from Don and doing our best to register our interest one way or another.
I've certainly not been here as much as I should, but life does that to you. Situations change and people change, but it doesn't stop me from coming by here when I can to put my two pence worth into threads. But as Gpher said, the series is finite and I'm running out of ideas to put forward and theories to make and sadly I've not had much time for writing of late.
If you look through the old threads just see how many things we have talked about over the years and it's an incredible achievement and testament to Dustin and Tony's work keeping this all going. Certainly I think that Dustin's book will be the kindling to the site. In all of the discussions here, I still feel I only know a small percentage of how the films were made and it saddens me that I'll probably never get to meet the heroes of the films I've loved so much through the years.
I see a lot of lobbying pages on Facebook for another film and members of the Phantasm Community page on FB and wonder how many of the people listed on there actually drop by here to make a contribution to these wonderful and often bizarre pages. It's time to stand up and be counted folks. Make new threads, reand and revamp old ones, put forward ideas and theories, fan projects and horror convention pictures. Nobody gets ridiculed here and it's a great place to be. Keep it going!

Lets not forget that message boards as a whole are on the decline, have been for a few years. Just the way it goes.

I'd love to see a part 5 but I've gotten on the reality train and have given up hope for this to come to be. So really I think the only way to let Phantasm live on is show it to the new generation like I intended to when I start having kids. You know, the reality train is that they really have been working on new Phantasm material. When they'll actually release it is anyone's guess, but it exists. If there isn`t anything to talk about anymore, shut down the board and be done with it. I didn`t think taking a few minutes a month to make a post would infringe on the administrators precious time. I'm sorry you feel this way. In the first few years of both this forum and the archives, I dedicated a great deal of my time to this place and to appreciating the films and their filmmakers. I don't think this place is over just yet. How many times can one chew the same piece of gum?Lets not forget that message boards as a whole are on the decline, have been for a few years. Just the way it goes. Forums are on the decline, but I imagine this place will perk up quite a bit when two future events happen.... when my book is released, you'll have quite a bit of new material to chew on and discuss. We're talking fun franchise secrets that have never been let out. And then when the new Phantasm project they've been working on endlessly hits, we'll all have fun taking that apart.

The layout of this board is terrible. The way the left side avatars/usernames align with posts is really hard to look at.
