Many eons ago, I remember hearing some horrible rap song that had the Phantasm theme to it. So I did some very easy searching and found a couple songs.
This is a song by 3 6 Mafia, called Late Night Tip. I heard the original song, and the lyrics are just horrible, in my opinion.
So, I searched for an instrumental version and here it is. You can easily hear the theme here. It's actually a pretty catchy rendition to "rapping" the theme out.
Now, if rap music is your thing, here is the lyrical version. I don't personally like it, but that's just me. I prefer the instrumental.
Another rap song called "Party Like a Rock Star" by Da Shop Boyz. Another song I do not like, but if you listen during the hook, you can't hear notes from the Phantasm theme.

Nice finds, Natalie! You can totally hear it in both songs.

I really don't think this one was inspired by Phantasm but after seeing the first film it sure reminded me of it. It's from Styx The Grand Illusion album and the song is Castle Walls.

Oh, I love the Styx! And I do see what you mean about Castle Walls. I sense the atmosphere of Phantasm more so.

Nice find. I wonder why it's pretty much only hip hop/rap artists that have used the theme. I'd like to hear some alternative and/or classic rock renditions. I know there are Youtube users who cover the piece, and they do amazing covers, too.

I have MANY songs which used the film's theme or were dedicated to the movie (near to 30 songs in my collection), but when I tried to post it here, administrator deleted my post saying that it's kind of piracy) so, if anyone is interested, just write me apm or e-mail me at alexx_coma@mail.ru and I'll send you an archive)

Posting YouTube videos is just fine, it's just when music is posted to download that it becomes a tricky area.

I posted this once before on another thread (and may have even started it), but lord knows where that's ended up by now. It was years ago, so it's probably somewhere in Oblivion. (Zing!) This example isn't so much homage as it is (I am assuming) entirely coincidental. It's a piece by Hans Zimmer for the Angels & Demons soundtrack, and as far as I know, the only person he's ever been accused of ripping off is himself. Anyway, take a listen - the whole thing is good - but really take a listen starting at the 4:00 minute mark. Could you imagine him doing the entire Phantasm 5 score? That'd be hot as love.

I don't know if this is common knowledge, but the death metal band "Entombed" sampled the phantasm tune back in the year 1990 in their song "Left hand path". If you want to listen, here is the link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6exw6xT0ooThe sample is played at 3:50 Check it out!!

What's with all the rap music borrowing the theme? that descending note run makes for a good loop, with multiple chords resolving well against it. other than that, the soundtrack must have been a popular LP... quotes show up everywhere.
