I don't know if this has been brought up before but after watching OblIVion in the early hours of today, I wondered if the Mike we saw actually dies at the end, like the Tall Man in every film, but has one or more versions of himself in different dimensions/timezones?
If so, I wonder which of these Mikes, if any, are the real one?
Or maybe Mike is somehow restored to life?
The question is, why does he need the sphere in his head to live? Never really understood the whole sphere-in-the-head thing, seeing as they apparently already contain micro-brains.

My thought was that Mike was not truly dying. It was just his human form was dying. Mikes essence and spirit are contained within the sphere.
(Off topic but random thought why dose The Tall Man try and kill Mike in P1 and then later on wants to use Mike)

Good ideas, both. I agree that Mike's consciousness probably resides inside the sphere now, just like Jody's in P3 and P4. Either it's always been inside him, or the Tall Man installed it around his brain in P3.

It was shown in P3 of the Tall Man taking a brain out of a corpse/dwarf and putting it in a sphere. And since a person cannot survive a brain "transplant", for lack of a better word, it's obvious everyone with a sphere in their head must have already died. That gets me thinking that Mike may have already died and we just don't know it.

But in the case of Jody/black sphere, a sphere can think individually and oppose Tall Man, as seen in part III. "He locket in on me" Jody says in the beginning if the film, when T.M comes and takes Mike away.
So, being a sphere and a human of "free" will IS combine-able in rare cases.
