Ok, maybe this has been discussed before but I didn't find it:
Mike is evolving, becoming something like The Tall Man... he got one gold shpere in his head of his own, spherecal eyes (maybe symbolizing his insight into the Tall Mans secrets), he can also telekinesis and drop stones on enemies and scorpions, as T.M. also can telekinesis and throw people around...
But what the heck is the end part trying to tell us? Mike has a mystic grin on his face, when he suddenly attacks The Tall Man "fire by fire", by attacking him with a "toy sphere".
And then the sci-fi looking engine bomb, caught Tall Man's attention... as he cant stand the curiosity he goes to the sci-fi looking engine that blows.
Where did that come from?? To me it is kind of hard to relate to the engine bomb since it seem to comes out of nowhere...
Mike must have reached Tall Man's invension knowledge and in a promitive way the bomb could be compared to Tall Man's discovery of the dimensional forks, or what does the sci-fi engine bomb relate to???
Do you have any ideas???

Thanks for the advice.
I did watch the commentary of Oblivion and Don C did mention earlier in the movie, when Mike at the first time leaned over the hearse engine, that Mike evolved and got new ideas in line with Tall man's extraordinary knowledge. By evolving Mike gets some basic insight into technological secrets, which he tries to surprise and outsmart Tall Man with... That's it, more or less... Better luck next time Mike!

It was a cool concept, but I always kinda thought it had a bit of wasted potential too. Sure, it had the jerry-rigged sphere to draw Tally in, but the device itself was basically nothing but a car bomb. It doesn't really show off Mike's new abilities to their full potential; Reggie makes a car blow up earlier in the film without any spooky sci-fi powers. It would have been awesome if it had done something weird like generate a spacegate sucking the Tall Man into the sun, or detonate in an ice blast that freezes and shatters the big guy. Something a bit more interesting and unexpected than "bang!".

Originally there was more to that scene that Don decided not to do. Reggie shows up and instead of saying the line of "I'll come back for you" or something like that, he told Mike "I'll see you in hell, buddy". He hands Mike a necklace made of grenades that he would activate to explode so that the Tall Man wouldn't take their bodies. I know it's in the Phantasm Exhumed book. But not sure if Don changed it instead to the hearse exploding instead.
