If you search for Phantasm on the Anchor Bay site none of the films show up anymore and a quick check on Amazon shows that all 3 are no discontinued and selling at a premium price. This isn't that surprising considering Anchor Bay has let a lot of their horror movie rights lapse and be transferred to other studios recently.
This can mean 1 of 2 things:
1. The studio that will be releasing Phantasm V has obtained the distribution rights to 1,3 & 4 as well and will be re-releasing the title on home video and hopefully Blu-Ray.
2. Shout Factory/Scream Factory has obtained the rights to the remaining Phantasm films and new versions are on the way.
Either way I would expect that whoever now owns the rights will be announcing new versions of the films in time to capitalize on the release of Phantasm V this Fall.

In other words, Anchor Bay has lost the rights to sell the franchise and will be distributed by whoever releases Ravager? Or am I getting it the wrong way round?

Anchor Bay did some due diligence in at lease getting the Philms out there on DVD, but who isn't salivating at the possibility of someone like Shout Factory releasing 1,3 and 4 in special release blu ray and then 5 ? I have 24 different DVD issue releases of the first 4 films from all over the world and they are great to collect (along with all the box sets from all over too), but I want blu ray with loads of extra material to wet my Phantasm appetite.
Let's just hope whoever picks up the rights keeps things moving the right way instead of letting these classics languish unreleased with new material.
