Would you like to actually see the three hour cut of Phantasm? I would pay handsomely to see the three hour cut. Do you believe Don would actually release one? I am actually hoping against hope that Don releases this in conjunction with Phantasm: Ravager. They would make a great double feature.
I've been hanging around the boards and I've seen some deleted scenes that didn't show up on the AB release of Phantasm, nor Oblivion, such as Mike throwing a football with the kid who's dog was ran over by TTM and Tally climbing up a tree after Mike (which was probably the most terrifying thing in the movie and I don't know why Don cut that scene out). I will never believe Don and Co saying that all of the footage was destroyed and/or lost. I've even heard that there was a scene floating around where Jody put Mike into a chandelier, while he ran to find Reggie. Mike was later caught in the chandelier because the dwarfs began circling the chandelier and began jumping up to try to attack him.
I am sure Don would make a KILLING off releasing an extensive three hour cut of Phantasm. I know I would pay $100 for it easily. Phantasm is my favorite horror movie ever, I would love to see it in it's entirety. I understand most of the deleted scenes were scenes of character development, but I think it would flesh out the characters much more. It seems like a whole other part of the movie is missing.
If Don comes to these boards and lurks, I'll be ready to pitch in and give him eighty bucks to get the project started.

I think we'd all do just about anything to see the full cut of Phantasm. Heck, I know I'd pay a pretty penny for it. Thing is, I highly doubt it'll ever happen. Highly. But I mean you never know, right?

I give it a .0000001% chance of ever seeing the light of day. Don knows what he wants out there and what he doesn't, and although it would be super cool to see all the great material that was left on the cutting room floor (ie: Reg playing and singing at his ice cream shop) I don't believe it will ever make its way to the Phans other than the tidbits we have see like in Phantasmagoria.

jperez9011I haven't logged in and posted in ages, but after reading your post I just felt I had to. Your post is exactly the same way I feel on the subject of the 3 hour cut. I'd be willing to shell out some serious coin for a definitive cut like this. I could care less if the picture/audio quality is sub par (ala the cut drunken ice cream shop scene). I just want to know more about these characters. As crazy as it sounds, when I watch Phantasm and see Jody riding his bike down that beautiful California neighborhood street I want to be there on my bike right alongside him.

I can see DC not wanting to release it on dvd etc, but it'd be cool to have screen at a convention. Same with an extended P2
I wonder if the "Morningside" print exists in Don's archives?

Do you think if I ask Don at Son of Monsterpalooza this weekend he would get annoyed? I have talked with Don twice and both times he was super cool, don't want to cheese off the Phantastic one himself.

I didn't get a chance to spend a lot of time with Don as it was getting super busy and I hit him with a lot of questions about Ravager instead of Phantasm. Also he got caught up in checking out my Japanese DVD box set as he had never seen one. Sorry.

I have mixed feelings about this.
On the one hand seeing a 3 hour cut of Phantasm would be awesome.
But a lot of the extra footage seemed to make its way into Part IV.
I suspect even more might make its way into Part V.
Giving us the 3 hour version might spoil the reveal of this footage in V and any possible future films. I kind of like seeing them flashback in this way.

I kind of like seeing them flashback in this way. So there will be more "missing" footage in Phantasm: Ravager? Or is that just wishful thinking? As the first Phantasm is my favorite, I would give my firstborn to see the movie in all it's entirety. It won't really spoil anything because we don't know how Don would incorporate it into Phantasm V. For example, Don could have left in the extended tree hanging sequence. After Mike cuts Tally from the tree, Tally climbs the tree after Mike, a truly terrifying sequence (even without sound; I'm sure if they had sound in that clip, it would have been even SCARIER) that had Mike realizing what a pickle he was in and jumping from the tree. The whole sequence climaxed into the TTM's demise on the first film: Mike and Jody setting the TTM up to fall into the mine. There was only a brief clip of that sequence used in Oblivion. Then again, I wasn't much of a fan of Oblivion, but I see your point. I would just prefer all of the "missing" footage be reinstated to it's rightful place in P1, regardless of quality.

I'm not sure if there will be more "missing" footage, but I wouldn't doubt it.
I think I and IV were my favorite Phantasm films. II and III left much to be desire, I feel like those two could probably be cut into one satisfying film.
