Honestly, I don't know where people got that "James tries to distance himself from Phantasm II" business in the first place. I remember back in the day on a (Geocities?) website, there was a Phantasm fan that worked in some kind of package/mail delivery and delivered something (I think it was a script)to James at his house. IIRC, he'd delivered stuff to James on more than one occasion. On one of his deliveries, he'd brought his Phantasm II poster (with Reggie's signature) along to ask James to sign it, and he seemed genuinely flattered, said something along the lines of "Oh cool, you got Reggie's autograph.", and actually talked with the guy for awhile.

Happy to explain this perception of James LeGros for you. - He refused to participate in the Anchor Bay UK Sphere set - He also refused to participate in the Scream Factory Phantasm II Blu-Ray - He has repeatedly turned down reunion opportunities extended to him (screenings and conventions) - He further refused participation with my book, Phantasm Exhumed in 2012. The following year, he ran into Angus Scrimm at a movie premiere and was quite friendly. Angus pitched him on my book in that encounter and James told him "Sure!" and told Angus to have me contact him through a mutual friend. I did this the following week and the mutual friend wrote back, "Sorry, James says he doesn't want to talk about the movie." As to why James is this way, who knows? Maybe he didn't take kindly to being re-cast with A. Michael Baldwin.

Maybe you're right and he dislikes the fact he wasn't approached to be in the other sequels...OR maybe something was lost in translation between this mutual friend (no offense to that person) and it's not that James didn't want to talk about the movie, but simply didn't have the time. Taking a glance at his IMDB, he looks like a busy man. Who knows? This is all unfortunate either way, I guess; a lost opportunity. I genuinely wonder if James is even aware of how much of a cult following this series has. A lot of people out there would've greatly appreciated his input.
