This is kind of inspired by the "who here actually DOESN'T want P5 to happen?" topic. Since it appears a majority does want a P5. What are some things that might ruin the experience for you? For me it would be the following: 1. If Angus Scrimm couldn't play The Tall Man. 2. Too much cgi. 3. Anti-climactic ending (considering how hard it would be to end this series and how much I love Phantasm I wouldn't complain much about this.)

it has to have the core cast members. otherwise don't make it in my opinion.

I doubt it would be made if Angus couldn't play the Tall Man .
I have no worries about how it would end seeing how Don pretty much knows what he's doing with his series. Answers will be good but I still want to have questions even if this is the last installment.

I didn't really like the CGI in the beginning of Phantasm IV with the spheres coming at you after Reg's little encounter with the Tall Man. So I'm hoping it won't be like that. And Phantasm won't be the same without Angus, so I'm hoping all goes well.

I'm not too worried about CGI, if it saves money for really good puppetry effects or intricate sets. My biggest worries are about age (Jody hasn't looked right for and immortal sphere-o-gram for two sequels), and that Don really isn't thinking as hard about these questions we keep asking as we are.

This is exactly the sort of area where subtly done cgi can make lotsa difference. I'm all for cgi if it isn't omnipresent and obvious. And though I surely cannot speak for the man if Don is going to do this - if I were him, I'd be reading these forums, TOTALLY. Maybe he doesn't have the time, normally, but I've noticed as the sequelae progressed he had phan input and used it, even hired people to work or him from that community. I'd not be surprised if he's indeed thinking of these things.

Watch the special effects featurettes on the DVD of Slither to see how CGI and practical effects can blend together seamlessly. If no practical effects are used at all, I will be disappointed.

I agree with that statement, I shoulda been more clear, what I meant was I didn't want them to rely on cgi more than just for little enhancements. I'm scared we'll have too many cgi monsters and no prostectics and costuming. CGI spheres are fine with me as long as they're only used when they need hundreds but I wanna see some actual ones too.

I'm not a big fan of CGI but it's ok when it isn't heavily replied upon. I prefer mechanical & make-up effects & the like.

I agree with all the previous posts about CGI. It really sux when it comes to monsters (like a lot of Sci Fi Channel movies), but it could help out tremendously with elaborate sets. Also it can be used seamlessly, I think the X-Files movie is a good example of this.

To those who are worried about Phantasm V being made or not being made... allow me to say a few words. Understand how air-tight Don keeps his behind the scenes happenings. The cast table reading and the test footage shoot both happened in late 2006 and we didn't even find out about it until July of 2007. There could be numerous good things happening right now and we wouldn't even know it. That's how Phantasm works and how it's always worked.
I truly believe that we won't know Phantasm V is in production until it's finished shooting. I think a big indicator will be when the cast/crew stop answering e-mails for about a month straight. Don't let me mislead anyone with that - I don't think Phantasm V is shooting or will shoot before the end of the year. Phantasms typically shoot in winter for summer or fall releases.
But I just hope that you guys aren't loosing faith. This is a film thirty years in the making. We can wait a little bit longer.

I still have faith in Phantasm V. Everybody knows that us phans want it badly. I think it'll happen.
And I'll keep on writing letters to Anchor Bay in the meantime.

I'll never lose faith in it I believe Don and the cast know what they are doing and I enjoy that they keep things tightly under wraps as to not spoil anything.

But if it is kept air tight, that would mean direct to DVD most likely. Could a major studio keep it a secret? Probably not. I just don't see why a studio wouldn't take a chance. I was just reading on a site (which shall remain nameless), that a certain piece o' crap movie was OK'd 10 - 15 million for advertising. It BOMBED. Just think what Don could do with half of that...

Direct to video wouldn't spoil it for me. That's where a lot of movies are making their money anyway. Seeing it on a big screen would be awesome, but I don't really see a major release. What's likely is a limited release similar to what we saw with Bubba Ho-Tep.
