As many of us heard from the recent podcast, A. Mike Baldwin has read the proposed script for PV. Though he didn't say much, he did say it would be "the thinking man's phantasm", or something to that extent. Does this worry anyone else? I enjoy the theories and symbolism as much as anyone else, but what of the horror aspect? What about the splatstick escapism? (Don't anyone deny it, Phantasm films always have their fair share of camp ). I personally hope for PV to not be a totally different, "supernatural thriller type" movie, but have the same style as the previous films and expand upon it to epic proportions! Oddly enough I don't want PV to go back to Morningside for the horror parts (Or at least not to past Morningside, seeing the present Morningside, dominated by the tall man would be cool), I would rather have Reg dodging native flora and fauna (If anything living thrives there) on the red planet , staging the whole thing on "post-apocalyptic Earth" kinda underwhelms me.

Let him catch you addressing him as Mike and see how long it is before a sphere is headed in your direction! Not at all. If you're worried about the horror aspect being gone, do recall what Angus said on The Phantasm Archives a few months back: " If I did the Tall Man once more, I think I'd like to make him darker and scarier again. Seems to me he softened up a bit in the last episode." I think the new script by Romano will allow him to do that otherwise he wouldn't have said anything about it. As for Phantasm losing it's camp value, well.... I feel pretty confident that as long as the Regman is around that we'll always have more than a few weird laughs to share. And what if Rocky came back? Those two would definitely keep the campness up. I think Rocky being around is a safe assumption. I mean, Romano is clearly fond of the character seeing how he brought her back for the Overminds comic and he keeps in touch with Gloria Lynn-Henry, the actress, because they collaborated on his upcoming book project together. It's something to think about, for sure.

I'm not personally worried. I mean haven't all the Phantasm films been for "thinking men" anyway (in some form or another)? All of them, right from the original, require the viewer to think about what they are seeing. They're very engaging movies. As a matter of fact, if they weren't so deep and complex, why would all of us be posting here so regularly? Any film that can spark a community to ponder and question as much as the Phantasm series does is quite fitting to be labeled as a "thinking man's" movie.
And like Dustin pointed out, Angus himself wants to bring the Tall Man back to his horror roots. Straight from the legend's mouth.
Interesting idea about Rocky, Dustin. It would certainly be a jaw-dropper to see someone return from a past entry (aside from Bill Thornbury reprising his role as Jody). The fans would go nuts too. I seriously need to get on the ball (ha ha) with that comic. Seems like I'm missing out on some interesting lore.

So Baldwin doesn't like to be called Mike? I have no worries about this being a "thinking mans Phantasm" to me they all require thought and take it however you will. Which in turn makes the series great to me. I don't know if I'd like Rocky back I just never dug her or Tim in P3. I would LOVE to see Angus make the Tall Man dark like he was in Phantasm again.

i wouldn't mind if it turned out to be a more cerebral movie. as long as the visuals are weirder than ever.

So Baldwin doesn't like to be called Mike? ... Remember Jody in the graveyard (P4) calling out to.... "Mike!?........Mike?!......";. We all know what happens next. It's pretty obvious he doesn't like to be called Mike. He just "wanted to be sure...".

I myself would like to see it all go back to Morningside. And I prefer the "thinking mans" PHANTASM, apposed to a nonstop action shootem up.

I would love for it to be back at Morningside but weren't they asking too much $$ is why Oblivion wasn't there?
I don't mind the shoot'em up Reggie wiping out spheres, gravers and Dwarves so much but I would also like for it to be more along the lines of the original.

I dont know anything about the $$ problem with Morningside.... True I dont mind action, I just dont want to see it end as I said ,in a mindless, nonstop random action hack and slash shootem up. We can get that from tons of other horror flix. For me what made PHANTASM stand out above the rest was the DEEP plot, the twists , the turns. Its soooo mush more than just blood and guts! And the whole thing doesn't have to be at Morningside, Id just like to see it end there. The end at the beggning that way it a continous loop and never really ends....
