So I was involved in that large thread in reference to seeing the new Halloween. Me being the nerd I am, saw it on openeing night. I thought it stank. Zombie changed way too much.
For instance, the reason Myers was so scary was because he came from normal family and no one knew why he erupted one day. Too much time was spent on this topic. What made the first even scarier was that we didn't know Laurie was his sister.
I think he tried to replace horror with gore and lots of T & A. (I persoanlly thought Laurie, who didnt get naked, was the cutest anyways)
Maybe I am just projecting a bit. Anyone else have an opinion?
And if you didnt see it: worth seeing out of curiosity but don't expect the original...

I'm with you on it. Everything that made the original scary and the character great for me was destroyed in this movie.
I did however like Danielle Harris in the movie though that was one of a very very few bright spots for me.

I agree that it was good to see Danielle Harris back. It's also nice that it may be open for her to return...
I was just disappointed becasue there was a lot of potential there...That being said, Id probably pay to see it again and give it a second opinion.

I saw it twice and not alot has changed for me. Nothing really made it stand out it's just another slahser flcik.
If they didn't have the Myers mask in this movie it could be anyone throw in a Hockey mask and it's Jason throw in Leatherface and it's Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Maybe Ill just wait for the DVD then. I've seen enough crap about how its setting records already. As a true fan of Michael Myers, I shouldn't contribute to that hype!

Believe me if you are a fan of the originals I don't see how you could like this one.

I would not waste my money to see this film again. If I had the DVD, it would just sit on my shelf collecting dust.

I cheated & watched the workprint last week. It was a huuuuuuuge turd. Terrible.
I was supposed to watch it with my friend when he got back from vacation but he ended up watching it anyway. No big loss really. I'd rather watch Death Sentence.

I wonder if Michael Bay will mangle the remake of Friday the 13th as bad as Zombie did Halloween.

Absolutely scuba. I was really, really disappointed. The worst part is, there will be a bunch of kids running around thinking that this is Michael Myers. Thats the real f***ing nightmare!

It's also bad because they will make sequels to this trash as well.

Why can't Hollywood just forget about remakes of horror classics. It is almost is always a receipe for failure. I think what is almost worse is when the original director remakes his own movies, i.e. Wes Craven & Hills have Eyes 1 & 2 and the movies still suck. I don't like most current horror because its either too mired down with atmosphere or too much focus on gore and shock. Halloween was great because it was suspenseful and a testament is that by the end of the movie you could believe in the boogey man.

Actually, don't be too sure of the sequels. Halloween may be making tons of cash... but here's what Bob Weinstein has to say about it and he is definitely a man of great power in Hollywood.
"I never say never, never... but it would have to be something very, very different."
Bob told that to Reuters and was overall doubtful that they'd ever make a sequel to it. The numbers have been good but the critical and more importantly fan reaction have been horrid.

I'm sure at some point there will be moer Halloweens but I hope to god they are not direct sequels to this garbage.

Absolutely. They will make more Halloweens, because the bottom line is that they make lots of money. No matter how bad they look, fools like me will still pay to see it. There are def some interesting directions the series could take, but Im sure they will come up with crap. Don't be surprised to see a sequel to Zombie's pic.

Maybe the sequel won't be as bad if they actually give it to someone who knows something about the series and what makes Michael Myers what he is.

Today, I forced myself to see Rob Zombie's Halloween. I'm a diehard fan of the originals and I love the previous eight films like it's no one's business.
For almost two hours today, I watched Rob Zombie sh*t all over them and their legacy. This movie was worse than Resurrection. It's worse than Halloween 5. It's beyond awful. I cannot believe this film was made.
I'm glad Moustapha Akkad isn't around to see what's become of a character he worked so hard for all those years. If Akkad were around, this film would not have ended up this way.

Based on the reviews from all of you good people, I won't rent this movie and I'll probably only watch it when HBO gets it. Around Halloween time every year I like to watch Halloween I & II back to back in the dark and alone. Dustin, sorry there is no way you can recover those two hours of your life back.

I won't even spend $3.50 at the rental store when it comes to DVD. That movie is not worth my money.
