In my photography class, I have to make a cover a a magazine using Photoshop CS3. I want to make like a Phantasmish type magazine cover. Any ideas on what to do?
I need 2-4 pictures that have been edited, a title, and 3-5 luring topics.

Check out Fangoria's for inspiration. As always you want to watch out so you don't just copy the idea, but as an artist, looking at art always helps me get the juices flowing.
Best of luck, and show us what you end up with!

Look for several items you can use as source material... and I find it's best when each source is vastly different than the rest... hell, even in some crap like a Macy's ad in Seventeen Magazine can really inspire, be it in use of line, texture, color, or just it's content and juxtaposition. You can pretty much find inspiring design elements everywhere, even in things of non-print. Go outside, look at buildings. See the way forms come together, and how they play off one another.
Basically what I'm saying is you should just gather together several things you find visually interesting, and use your own creativity to draw from each and create something new. What I would NOT suggest is only looking at Phantasm-related things, or even just horror related things... you can very easily become frustrated and constrained.
Use text as a relevant and important element, too. It's not just "letters"... text and typography in general are more crucial than even imagery in most cases.
I am confident you will do GREAT. And like stated above, be sure to share this with us when you're finished. I am quite excited to see what you create!

Ok, I finished my magazine cover. Keep in mind, it is my first time using Photoshop CS3, and I'm still exploring it. My due date wasn't long enough to edit the images all cooler and such.

Groovy...Good work.
If you get a chance to, mess around with the plug-ins. They're a blast.
