I know a lot of today's films are utter garbage, but I saw the midnight showing of this last night and it was truly great. In fact, I left the theater so d**n satisfied that I don't know what to do with myself! And to make it even more exciting, I got to see the new Dark Knight trailer. I could die I'm so happy!
Anyway, have any of you seen it? Or do you plan to?
My rating: 9.8/10

I'm going to pass on it. It may be good but it just doesn't interest me. If anything, I'll just read the book sometime.

That's truly a shame man. I hope down the road you at least give it a rent or something.

I don't really consider it a shame when it comes to not watching a movie that doesn't interest me. I can't take Will Smith seriously despite the fact that he's a pretty decent actor. I'm always going to picture him making Uncle Phil & Carlton jokes.

Don't take it personally man, I only said it was a shame because it's a really good film and it would suck if people missed out on it due to a biased opinion of an actor. Not trying to argue buddy, let there be peace!

Honestly I thought it had many of the same ideas and elements as Resident Evil did.
While I thought the movie overall was good,I thought it was boring in some parts...and definitely depressing ending. Will Smith I thought was excellent.

I really didn't like this film, and the last bit of respect I had for will smith as an actor just went out the window. That scene in the video store chatting up the mannequin whilst crying was one of the worst pieces of acting I've seen from him. Especially since the one before with his dog was one of the best scenes. I think it's one of those movies where if you've read the book, you'll hate the movie, as the two were so dissimilar. If you think the ending of the movie was depressing, read the book- it's more horrific than that and more poignant. And there's actually a great twist at the end of it. I really hate to disagree with you guys, but this really disappointed me. Another great story mangled by hollywood. I'd love to see a film where they keep to the original book. The last one I must have seen would have been...hey hang on a mo.....it was Phantasm lol

Interesting,I didnt know it was based on a book. Yeah, the video store scene was kinda cheesy. Some parts were just entirely too long getting to the point. The part where he was chasing after his dog in the dark was drawn out. Then I kept waiting for it to be scary and it really wasnt. Maybe I will have to check out this book though!

The video store scene to me is absolutely brilliant. It gives his character depth... shows just how lonely he's become. I'm shocked so many of you didn't like this movie. I really really am.

I know these are some really petty things, but it really pisses me off when a film uses the same title as a book and then is nothing like it. Why not just make a new film altogether. In the book, the setting is in Compton, not new york. Robert Neville is white, not black (not a biggie, but a difference nonetheless) and he's not some expert military scientist, he's more of an average joe. And the vampires become more intelligent and try to coax him out of the house, which gives the story loads of atmosphere and freakiness which I felt the film didn't have. But I'm glad you enjoyed it, I just didn't, but youknow, everyone has their own tastes. Yes I saw that article, scubasteve! It was interesting.
Yeah I get what you're saying about the differences from the book, but I rarely judge films based on the book they come from. If I did, a lot of movies I enjoy would probably be looked at poorly by me, haha.

lol, I know what you mean. But this one really got to me for some reason. I think it was all the hype and usual bullshit that got to me. I really should know better

i'm going to have to get a copy of the book now, there's a movie being made and it's really miffed me off far more than the supposed 'Evil Dead' remake

Mirai, the book is actually part of the SF Masterworks series of books now, so getting hold of a copy is not usually a big problem. Usually in the horror section though (go figure).
