Got thinking about this on one of the numerous "when will P2 be released on DVD threads. Why don't film companies or film crews give sequels the treatment they deserve? Do the writers, directors, and producers just get bored after so much? And when they get released to DVD (IF they do get released on DVD), the sequels are always barebones releases even when the originals get special editions! (A notable exception is the CREEPSHOW series, where parts 1 is barebones and both parts 2 and 3 get an overgenerous treatment).
Aside from the Phantasm series obviously where each installment is well spaced out and always has care and creativity put into it, what are some other better-than-average sequels that deserve to be recognized as worthy (or better than) the original?
What comes to mind is Child's Play 2, which was just as disturbing as it's predecessor, and The Return of Count Yorga, which was MUCH better than Count Yorga, Vampire.

Well I definitely think a couple of the Friday the 13th sequels are better than the original... namely parts 2 through 5.
I also think Batman Begins is better than all previous Batman films. The Empire Strikes Back is, to me, better than A New Hope. I can actually think of a lot of sequels that surpass the originals.

Well, for me, Aliens and The Godfather Part II come to my mind. They are both excellent films.

Terminator 2 is a really good sequel. I prefer the first but T2 is great. Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, & Land of the Dead are all good sequels as well. Maniac Cop 2 & 3. There's more but I don't feel like listing them at the moment.

Hellraiser 2 though it looks a bit dated graphics wise now those visuals of the labyrinth of hell are still awesome.
Evil Dead 2 was great as well though i prefer the all out horror of the first.

I prefer Evil Dead II to the first one but the first one is a lot more horror oriented as opposed to the second one that has a lot more comedy to it. The first one still creeps me out sometimes.
