Has anyone seen this? I think I saw it once when I was very young, but I really can't remember it. I ask because I am toying with the idea of purchasing it. It's a supposed "classic", and I have heard nothing but good things, but I just wanted some personal insight from someone who has seen it and recalls it.

I really like bladerunner. they've just released a final director's cut which is a cut released the way Ridley Scott wanted it to be rather than the movie bosses taking control. It was always deemed a classic, coz it's a really dam fine film, loads of atmosphere and it's a great story. You can hardly go wrong with Philip K. D ic k. And although there are differences again between book and film, they did a good job of the film. Well worth purchasing in my opinion.

I personally really like Blade Runner too, it's visually beautiful and manages to be greatly deep, without being devoid of action. However since most of the comments here have been one-sided, I'll try and outline some of the flaws.
I suppose 1 thing is mainly to blame for the bad parts of Blade Runner, that is the fact that it is indeed a film noir! Ray Deckard, our main character and ironically probably one of the weakest, is followed throughout the film. I felt that Harrison Ford was miscast, though the character himself was interesting, he might have been written better, and most probably acted better. Ford personally seems too clean-shaven, classic western type , to be a hard-boiled detective in a polluted, overpopulated world (and not to mention though he goes for "dreary" he appears more "bored" than anything in each scene). As a result of following Deckard around, not enough time IMO is spent with the truly excellent antagonist group of the film.
Another thing that made the film feel wrong with me, it's actually not long enough. Blade Runner actually feels compressed putting such a large world in a 2-hour timeframe. I felt that had the film had even more action (the original script called for only 1 replicant to be fried in the containment field) instead of the 2 big action sequences we had it, and if there was actually more vision into the dismal world of 11 years from now, then it could have been truly epic.
However, this does not make the movie feel empty for most people, perhaps I was just expecting too much. There is only so much you can do with any budget, especially in earlier times.

I have the older director's cut DVD of this but haven't watched it yet. I really need to do so sometime. If I enjoy it & can spare the cash, I'll definitely pick up the suitcase set.

i haven't seen it in a long time but i did enjoy it the last time i saw it. visually a dark film. i read the book version of it years ago and was disappointed in that as i was expecting more. a rather short one, more like a novella.

I also have the Blade Runner Directors Cut and always enjoyed this movie. I even remember going to the drive-in to see the movie with my family for the first time but I fell asleep early in the movie. I read the sequel books, it has been awhile so I can't give a decent review but it was good escapist fun.

I've never seen Blade Runner but have always wanted to.
This summer it'll be playing at a nearby theater and I think I'm going to grab 'theinferno' and go see it. That means holding out on buying the briefcase DVD set though. It's five-discs, right? Cripes.... mighty tempting.

It's worth getting just for the visuals. I would have liked a little more action, but that wasn't it's intention. I think leaving the narative out will give it a better vibe too. (Director's Cut) I'm not that fanatic to get the briefcase, though it does look pretty cool . I might get the 3 disc set.

So for those who have seen, which version is best? Director's Cut? Final Cut? The fans don't seem to have any qualms with the final cut. Umm, I believe the Milennium Falcon model (along with John Carpenter's Dark Star) is actually used as a building in Blade Runner
