So sad! I saw that piece online this afternoon and felt like I was stabbed through the heart. What a brilliant man. 90 years is a nice life. I've read lots of his books; Rendevous with Rama was especially creepy and creative. If it weren't for him, we wouldn't have GPS, Direct TV, etc. His Geosynchronous Orbit idea (putting satellits at 22,000 miles above the Earth to achieve a geostationary location over a fixed point on Earth) was brilliant. Yet because he never patented the idea, he never got a cent. The telecommunications industry makes BILLIONS, but not the guy who thought of it. I hope Mr. Clarke's spirit is exploring Europa right now to see if there really IS life in her oceans (such a memorable scene in one of his books)! As a side note, 2001: A Space Odyssey had an indirect influence on "Phantasm"--I seem to remember Roberto Quezada gushing about it on P2. The monolith, the spacegate, the glowing room like Bowman's hotel room. There was a desert scene in P4 with Mike that we called out Space Odyssey shot. Rest in peace, Arthur.

Read about this a little while ago. It's sad, but I agree that 90 years is a blessing for anyone.
