Hello all,
I am looking to buy a copy of the comic from Phantasm.com. Do any of you have it, if so do you recommend I purchase it or should I pass. I didn't buy the paperback years ago when it was availiable and I regret it. Any thoughts?

Okay so I bought it. I recieved it on Friday but didn't have the time to read it until yesterday. Just to be completly honest, I do not care for it. It seemed a little too far out there and too extreme. To go from Mike lying on the ground dying to him being in a dream hospital with Rocky? I dunno, maybe it's just me but the whole Rocky thing didn't do anything for me. If anyone should have been in the dream hospital with him shouldn't it have been Jody or Reg? The comic really disoriented me on the series and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe if Romano can get the second issue published it will make more sense? Ugh... Maybe someone can clarify things for me.
Edit: After reading this book over and over and over, it has grown on me. Hopefully #2 will come out sometime soon. So is Dr. Quezada an incarnation of the Tall Man?

I got them both the novel and the comic book no regrets. Comic is a little strange, but don't pass it off it's a good piece to add to one's Phantasm collection. The novel is really good I read it atleast 3x a year. PhantasmPhan

I hear that, I'm just not willing to drop $100 on it. I don't regret the comic, it is just another piece of memorabilia for me. Hopefully Romano will put out that ash can edition he was talking about.

Has anyone heard any news about the Ash Can edition that Stephen Romano talked about putting out? It has said on his site that one is in the works, but it's been like that for some time now. Any news?

Well, only the first issue has been released and something tells me that's all we are going to get.
It's a bit odd, but worth the purchase because it's Phantasm.

I don't own or have read the Phantasm comic, but is there any reason Romano can't get the rest of the series published? I mean, he got one out, did it not sell? Seeing as how it's just a fraction of a bigger picture it's hard to judge it by itself, regarding weather it's good or not. That actually sounds kinda interesting bringing Rocky back into it, weirdly it feels kinda right. I really hope he gets the rest published, because this will be as close to Phantasm V as we will ever get, unless the Phantasm's End script is leaked or something.
By the novel, I assume you're refering to the novelization of the original film written by Kate? I want it too, but is it really any different from the actual movie?

Well, there appear to be numerous reasons why the Phantasm comic didn't continue past the first issue, none of which I'm clear enough on to retell. The key to realizing the brilliance of the comic, for me, is on the last few pages when Dr. Quezada shares his theory on life with Mike. They begin to question that if they're all living a dream, who is the dreamer? Mike? Someone else? God? Could this, in fact, be a nightmare dreamed by God? And furthermore -- what if dreams had the power to influence reality?
The book is a huge build-up and I suspect that much of the sci-fi material is a red herring, the cover of which gets blown by the Tall Man appearing at the end. That leads me to discredit many of Dr. Quezada's scenes. Things, as you can clearly see on the last two pages, are about to rapidly change in the next issue which truthfully, we may never see. Who can say, really?
And re: the novelization of Phantasm -- yes, quite different from the film. I recommend it to anyone if you can get a copy for a decent price. I've seen them go for high dollars on eBay before.
