Guys, we have one hell of an awesome Administrator/Archivist/Leader/Pal. We know a good amount about Dustin, sure. But has there ever been a burning question you wanted answered? A lingering thought you wanted resolved?
Well here's your chance!
I know we could just ask him via pm or email... or even in existing threads. But I think it would be cool if we could all share our questions and learn the answers as a whole. I do not think it is appropriate to ask overly personal questions or anything like that, and Dustin if you think this whole idea is bunk I understand. I guess this thread is sort of a place to ask questions about Dustin himself, things going on with the forum/Archives, or anything that only Dustin himself can supply the answers to.
I just think there's a good deal to learn about Mr. McNeill, and if he would be so kind as to satisfy our curiosity then great. If not, that's completely cool too.
So without further adieu, I'll start this thing off...
I've always wondered, Dustin... do you have a job of any kind outside of what you do online with Phantasm?

Tony,
You flatter me tremendously. How much am I paying you for this treatment? I'm kidding. Outside of my Phantasm sites, I have a part-time job with a nearby Lexus dealership. I wash cars for rich people. Before this, however, I worked for a bank and managed at a catering company. It's all just to get me through film school.

Very cool! And see, I never would have found that out if I hadn't asked! I washed cars at a dealership once, too. Just for a day... that's all I could handle, haha. I sucked.

ok....I know of Dustin's DISLIKE of all things rohypnol....so my question is:
what is your favorite kind of music, aside from Phan stuff?

U2 is my favorite band for their soulful tunes and humanitarian messages and Daft Punk is my second favorite for their awesome beats and the story of their music (their albums contain storylines). Pink Floyd is also high up on my list.
You know... if these questions were like the ones I get in my e-mail each week, they'd go like this:
When is Phantasm V coming out? Why isn't Phantasm II on DVD? How come they replaced Michael Baldwin for Phantasm II? Where can I find a copy of the script for Phantasm's End? Is Bruce Campbell still going to be in Phantasm V?
I'm really glad you guys aren't asking those. They take a little of my soul away each time I answer them. But if you guys did want to ask some Phantasm-centric questions, that wouldn't be so bad.

I'd like to interview Ken Jones (first person to be drilled), Fred Myrow (Phantasm theme composer), Willard Green (p1 sphere fx) and Steve Patino (p2 sphere fx) but can't for the obvious reason of they've passed on.
There's a number of people I've tried to interview but have declined. None have really been jerks about it, so I'll keep their names to myself. Four of them were performers, though. A little sad.
Oh and the Angus Scrimm interview is still in progress. Our favorite Tall Man has been busy lately and on top of it all, participating in the WGA strike in honor of Don! What a guy! (pun intended as his name is Lawrence Guy)
I've also got several "yes" responses from people for future interviews but I'm trying to take it slow. I plan to have the Archives around for a long while so I'd better not post all of my good stuff in my first year of being! But I firmly believe the best interviews are yet to come. Just you folks wait.
Good question.

In hindsight, I put U2 in my top 3.
Quick story:
Saw them at their crest right before the mania set in. The 1984' "Unforgettable Fire" tour. Took my younger sis who was screaming like those old Beatles videos of chicks crying and such. Quite embarassing even though I was only 17. It was a moving experience, people were literally singing out in the streets 10 -15 minutes after the show. Bands today have alot to learn.
My questions:
Is horror really your favorite genre? and
Does your university work directly with any entity from the film business? Does it help students after graduation?(Lots of business schools do this with accounting firms as far as finding jobs after college...)

Awesome U2 story, vitaman.
Yes, horror really is my favorite genre in all of it's massive scope. From the silent days of Lon Chaney to the new stuff like Saw. I'm more old school than new school, though. 30s and 40s endlessly fascinate me.
As for the university question, it doesn't much apply in the film world since there are very few actual "jobs" as in accounting. Only temp jobs on a film by film basis. Matter of fact, I've learned the hard way that film school is one of the most unnecessary institutions in the world because you don't need a degree to work in film. You need contacts and on-the-job training. BUT..... college has provided me with both of these things so it's not like I'm wasting away these years. Plus a degree in anything will come in handy later on.
I'm not even sure I want to work in film when I graduate. I may just take a cozy behind the camera broadcasting job and enjoy the stability of a regular paycheck, y'know? It just depends on how far the winds are blowing westward when I get out.

Great Q & A so far!
Dustin, could you walk us through a typical day in your life? Just curious to see as how you occupy your time and such.

My typical day is class in the morning, work in the afternoon homework in the evening and after that I work on the Archives. I'm on Community throughout the day and such and also answering e-mails.
This Christmas I know I'll be getting an iPod touch from the 'rents so it'll be nice to be able to check e-mail and be on here without being glued to this infernal addicting laptop. I spend enough time plugged into it, more than enough really.

Now I think I'll ask myself a question. Where in the blazes is that Angus Scrimm interview you've been spouting on about for months now?".
Good question. Half of the interview is complete and I'm still waiting on Angus to return the other portion of it with his answers. From Halloween to last week, I lost touch with him when I'd otherwise been in touch on a week by week basis. He's back in touch now and promises me soooooooon it will be finished.
Almost more interesting than his answers is some of the dialogue we've shared just talking about the interview these past months. Some day, I promise to write an article for the Archives about it using his e-mails because they're mighty funny. He's called me a prince, likened me to Bob Woodward, cursed me and just today promised in lieu of my "apocalyptic letter" to send me an "acid response".
Soon.... hopefully soon I'll get this interview done and Archived.

I can't get RapidShare (BCG's hosting service) to open up. I'll try again in a bit. If anyone else is having trouble, please post here so I know it's not just me.

I can't get RapidShare (BCG's hosting service) to open up. I'll try again in a bit. If anyone else is having trouble, please post here so I know it's not just me. i just checked and they seem to work. once you click the link, scroll down then choose free download. that will bring you to the next page with a time ticket where it shows how long one has to wait. usually a minute or less. then once you can download you type in the box the letters/numbers it asks you to do type in. it is a bit of a hassle to do but i have been able to share stuff this way with ease instead of either emailing or using messengers to transfer stuff. let me know if you have any more trouble Dustin. i can break the 3 archives into 6 to reduce the size and email them to you if you have either dsl or cable.
