I was in high school, a sophomore, and randomly saw Phantasm on an FYE video store shelf. I picked it up in a buy one, get one free promotion not knowing anything about it. That was unusual because I almost always research movies I see. From there, it was true love.

Odd question, mirai. Dustin, what do you like to do when you go out? As in like recreation or things of that nature. You strike me as a man who likes to see a lot of films.

Mirai, mass apologies. I totally overlooked your question. When I hear Nightswimming, it reminds me of the good times past with people I'll never be able to connect with again. It reminds me of the final days of innocence before the cynicism of adulthood began to seep in. It reminds me of high school days. It's a very bittersweet song coupled with bittersweet memories. And Tony, actually, I'm not a terribly social person so I don't go out that often. Between school, work and my sites - I tend to stay in most nights. I certainly don't go to the movies very often because most of what comes out is crap and I can't stand audiences these days. Loud, obnoxious, cell phone using, etc. I stay at home a lot - which is how I like it. When I do go out to the movies, however, I tend to see older films in classy ol'e theaters. For example, this Friday night I'm driving about a hour and some change up the road to see a double-feature of 'Black Christmas' and 'Silent Night, Deadly Night' with 'theinferno. I absolutely love these type events, older films and I've not seen these two supposed gems so it should be fun!

I want to see Silent Night, Deadly Night at a theater! And see SNDN Part 2 afterwards. Garbage Day!

Dustin, I'm not very social either... in fact, I very rarely go out for anything other than class and to the store. The closest thing to social for me is that I go to the movies once every week or two.
Here's my question... do you plan on helming your sites for a long time? Do you even have a plan as to how long you're gonna keep doing this? I only ask because it seems that all previous Phantasm sites have eventually diminished, and I really don't want that happening here.

What is it about horror films that fascinate you so? What draws you to these films?

The best answer I can give is... I plan to helm the Archives for a d**n long time. I don't know how long I'll keep updates coming every week or so - but as long as I can. And should there come a day when I can no longer feverishly update, I'll simply let the website be and let phans still visit it for the content I will have amassed. I've got much of 2008 planned as far as features and interviews (pretty big names I've got already). 2008 will be a good year for the website, I can tell already.
I've also given thought to making other Archival websites. There are two franchises right now which will go un-named that I'm considering launching. If I did, the earliest would be in March when the Phantasm Archives will be one year old. By then I should have my phan-site where I want it to be ideally... currently it's still a work-in-progress. Needs a few more sections to be complete in my head. Even after it's complete, there'll still be updates though. Completing the layout and structure is just the beginning.
I have braced myself for the possibilty that this forum could die though. Four films isn't a whole lot to keep a community alive forever and I realize that. Even if this place dies, which I hope it doesn't, I'd still keep the Archives open and operational.
I won't ditch the phan-base. And that's not to say what previous webmasters did was 'ditching'. The whole reason I began the Archives is because there was a void to be filled. Leaving would bring us right back to that void and it'd be as if my site never was. And I don't want that. WHEW.... that's a big answer for ya.
I think horror films are fascinating and exciting, being able to see, feel and experience things that we could never in real life.... or wouldn't want to. They're fantastical and I dig that. As for Phantasm, these films are just so incredibly unique with their ambiguous and subtle styles of narrative. Far out stuff!

I mean I see how you say you hope this place doesn't die, but I still can't help but be concerned. I'm not really a part of any other online communities, and this place has become a daily thing. I'm sure you've likely seen me logged on at multiple times in a single day. I don't know, I'll fight to keep this place alive if I have to!

Even if this place dies, which I hope it doesn't, I'd still keep the Archives open and operational It happens to the best of forums. I was a member of the Death Wish Files forum for its entirty, which was well over a year. It started out strong with the regulars posting about all things Charles Bronson. Then people just kind of stopped posting. The site folded over the summer but that's mainly due to the webmaster, a friend of mine, losing interest in the site after being away on business for many months. The Sleepaway Camp Forum is still alive but it's not as active as it once was. I have a feeling that the Maniac Cop Fans forum will get pretty inactive...to the point where I'll either shut it down or just leave it around in case people start posting again. There's only so much to talk about when it comes to that series. I think this forum will keep on truckin' though. People like discussing Phantasm. Plus, there's a lot more we can talk about here.

Don't let my comments worry anyone. When I say "die" I just mean people might stop posting. That could happen at any moment and no one really has any control over it. If that happens, I'll still keep this place around.... I've considered registering on the SC forum but man, I nag Dusk over AIM, G-Mail, e-mail and Skype. It's probably best I leave him his space! When I get around to watching Maniac Cop 2 and 3 over the holidays, you'd better believe I'll be stopping by to discuss them, Chris. I read your forum and a lot of stuff goes right over my head because I haven't seen those. I'm coming though!

The Sleepaway Camp Forum used to be insanely active. Every now & then, it'll have its fair share of action. I've been a part of it for almost 5 years. And Dusk is a cool guy. He's been nothing but friendly towards me.

Here's one for you, Dustin...
Anyone ever tell you that you kind of resemble our beloved Mr. Coscarelli? I never really noticed it until I saw your new avatar with the facial hair...
It's like Mike becoming the Tall Man!!!

Actually, I get that all the time. No kidding.
Which is weird because I don't make any effort to look like the Don whatsoever, it just sort of happens, I guess. If you ever see a photo of what Don looked like when he was my age, we look absolutely nothing alike. He was a hairy beast!

I'd be wallowing around in the thousand plus I've spent in running the website and being a part of phandom.
And I'd probably be making more student films than I am.
