This just in from fangoria.com!:
"Finally, we also heard that Anchor Bay Entertainment will follow up its DVD editions of PHANTASM and PHANTASM III by giving PHANTASM IV: OBLIVION its disc debut August 26. The Bay also has the Starz! vampire-film documentary BLOODSUCKING CINEMA slated for September 23. Look for details on these at this site soon as well. —Michael Gingold"
Now if Universal released Phantasm II this year, our lives will be complete! HUZZAHS EVERYONE!

I bet it'll mostly be a port of the UK disc. Still, good news.

I'll take anything over the bare bones MGM release I have. Maybe it will have a better cover too. It takes all I have to pop in P4 because of the crappy DVD features. I think it was the first DVD my family ever bought so it will still have some sort of nostalgic quality to it.

I'll definitely pick it up seeing as I have all of the region 1 Phantasm DVD releases.

Phantasm Secrets.com has made a new entry on the R1 AB Release. And I think cover art is attached, but i'm not sure if it's the REAL cover art or fake. phantasm.com/secrets/

Before anyone gets too excited about the special features for the disc, nothing has been confirmed officially by Anchor Bay to anyone yet, the disc is still being finalized at this time. They don't even have final box art yet. The release date of 8/26 is finalized and that is it. Anchor Bay is definately treating the title with care, but don't get your hopes up on any of the features yet, features come and go on DVD's during the production stage due to various reasons. Anchor Bay has started advertising the title to retailers as part of their Halloween titles promotion but the cover art is similar to the MGM art other than the top of the box that says "Anchor Bay Collection" which is reserved for their special edition titles. Underneath the box art it says "Not Final Art" in bold, showing that Anchor Bay is clearly still working on the title as of right now.
For those interested the UPC Code for the new version is: 013131561296
It's retail price has been set at $14.98 by Anchor Bay as well.

For those interested here is a scan of Phantasm IV's Anchor Bay temp art as featured in their latest ad to retailers. As it states in the ad that is not the final artwork, but it shows that Anchor Bay is marketing it as one of their top titles this Halloween season.
