I just thought I'd share some photos I snapped on the way to work this morning (overcast) and this evening (sunny) of the Last Perfect Day street in Sherman Oaks. The jacaranda trees are in full bloom and its just stunning! The whole street is this amazing shade of purple, with even the street carpeted with lavender bell-shaped blossoms. The photos don't show it, but while I was standing there, dozens of blossoms were raining down on me continuously as the breeze blew. It's like a touch of heaven. Too bad "Phantasm" and "Phantasm IV" didn't use this street in June--during its one-time a year jacaranda foliage. There are other shots of this street in my MySpace album too.

Wow, these photos are truly stunning Kristen. The blossoms are quite breathtaking. Heck, even just the street itself looks oddly beautiful for some reason...

Thank you, Gopher. Yes, the street is very serene. Here's a shot of the corner Mike skids around in P1 as he starts to chase Jody (on bike)--the corner would be just behind that Volkswagon. You can see the hill in the background that you get a glimpse of too in the P1 shot.

Yet another reason why this film resonates with so many; the neighborhoods. I grew up in area where you could find streets and houses like that. Plus those open shots with the cuda and Mike on the bike.
As a teenager you could really let your imagination run wild as you biked pass your local funeral parlor, cemetery, church...
One sad note about your pictures and my old neighborhood, is the amount of cars. Urban sprawl...or is it just the time of day.
I'm sure they probably filmed P1 while people were at work and school to get that spaciousness.

Awesome stuff. I love things like this. Kind of like the little feature with Reggie in the Sphere set.

The street is really beautiful. I wonder if it's been used in other films

One of the things I first thought upon seeing Phantasm for the first time was that it could have been filmed in just about any small town in the Western US. My hometown still has some streets that look a lot like this. The funny thing is that Coscarelli gave the impression that the movie was taking place in a small rural area. My uncle was convinced it was filmed in either Northwestern Oregon, or Southwest Washington when it was released. Who would have thought he was filming in Sherman Oaks? I agree.....I grew up where P-1 was film in the SFV....I guess the movie really had a major impact on me.
