Shooting "P5" in digital could be a great way for Don to save a HELL of a lot of money on film stock. I think all previous Phantasms were shot on 35mm. Don could save thousands and thousands of dollars by using HD video. You can purchase HD cameras for under 20 thousand dollars. He'd probably be able to hire the gear for much cheaper rates.
Would anyone care if it was shot on digital? Does anyone know of Don's views on the recent digital revolution?

I could care less as long as it's made.
Which it isn't getting made, so where does that leave us?

I would really prefer film instead of digital, IMO it cheapens more than productions costs... Digital picture is almost too clear, like you can see everything is artificial... But yeah, preferences aside I'd be perfectly willing to take any format (including several rapid stills in succession), and wade through vomit if it meant PV getting made ;D .
...And I am not saying it's not getting made, even if it's clear it really isn't, as long as Don still supports it!

I would prefer film as well. I even did a debate in one of my classes on which is better, film or digital. I was pro-film, and won.

I would not been into them making it in digital but if it means it will get made it would be good. The George Lucas digital looks awesome but all the cheaper digital films look really crappy. A normal 2 hour movie can cost anywhere between half a million to a million dollars just in the actual film stock and the processing of the stock. Digital would save him a lot of money.
Don ain't got a chance unless he can get a few million together. There were a few CGI moments that looked really dodgy in IV so I'd hope he'd be pushing to get enough cash to make things look a bit more realistic.

I dunno I'm not really into digital myself at all even though it is obviously cheaper. I guess I'm old school and like the realism.

Nothing looks good or realistic anymore and I would hate to see Phantasm stoop to this level. Not that nobody has, but a lot of the stuff in Phantasm II & III as well as a lot of other movies looked really good and thats without any digital crap.

Just because a film is shot using digital cameras doesn't mean it will affect the quality of the film. Zodiac was completely shot digitally and looked just like film, as was Before The Devil Knows You're Dead. It all depends on how lighting and the type of camera used. As for the CGI affects in Phantasm IV, they were done on the cheap, with the advancements in CGI the same effects would likely cost alot less then they cost Don back then and look alot better. Shooting digitally would allow more money to be spent on the production values of V and would be the way to go as long as the proper cameras were used.
