Phantasm may not be the most popular series ever, but I still find it astounding that Phantasm II has yet to be released on DVD; Phantasm III likewise if not for Anchor Bay.
My initial theory after Anchor Bay released 1 & 3 (and thus I became the phan that I am now) was that we would see a joint release of 2 & 4 the following year. My theory was partially right; we did get a new Phantasm IV: Oblivion SE but over a year later and still no Phantasm II. Anchor Bay has worked things out with studios before, espacially with 20th Century Fox, so I do have a feeling that now with three of the films under Anchor Bay's roof that we will see it with a year or so, tops hopefully.
Theres no conferming that though, but theres no doubt that it will be somewhat soon (though that depends on your definition of "soon"). I guess you can call this another Phantasm II DVD post, but since we know where getting somewhere I wanted to know your theories on the matter. Phantasm II is my favorite one practicly and I absolutely need this movie on DVD, but hopefully with more extras than the Lord of the Dead & Oblivion DVD's.

Or as the Tall Man himself might say, "Not possible".

I'm wishing too... Had so many wonderful memories on P2. I suppose a DVD release depends on how long a certain studio can hold a grudge.

I mean in America/Canada, where the vast majority of Phantasm fans are. But yeah, technicly it *is* on DVD.....in virtually every country but this one. Even Japan. what the hell. I'm reluctant to buy it, I know that in the end the import and such are simple and Phantasm II is probobly my favorite of the series (about tied with the original), but I for some odd reason think that there won't be much time left before there will finally will be one. They got Phantasm IV from MGM. I'd say sometime next year. If not I'm deffinately importing. I taped it on Cinemax so 'm sontent with that. Not really but it's better than no movie.

i have the digi pack box set but i took it a step further today. i bought some dual layer dvd blanks and backed up part 2 and the bonus disc. the back ups are region free so no problems with pc viewing now as each dvd drive has a limited amount of region changes allowed.

Distribution rights always seem to be a big mess in the US but outside, it's simple and each and every movie of a particular series is owned by one distributor and they can do these box sets.

Fox gives Anchor Bay rights to some of their titles because Fox distributes Anchor Bay releases, they also handle MGM/UA and others. Universal and Anchor Bay had a good relationship back when DVD first started and their licensed a whole lot of titles to Anchor Bay including Army Of Darkness and Repo Man. Unfortunately Anchor Bay made alot of money off them and Universal felt they missed out. Ever since then Universal has not allowed Universal to license or re-license their previous titles.

What about Legend Films? I heard they distributed some Universal classics. Plus, Legend Films released a couple of Paramount horror classics and cult classics. If we could contact Legend Films, we might have a chance of a Phantasm II DVD sometime next year. There's hope.

The P2 DVD stuff is getting almost as desperate as John McCain's Presidential campaign.
