I was just thinking if Phantasm was paired up with say Halloween or The Thing, if it could have a successful limited 2 to 3 week run. I remember The Exorcist did this and it must of made some money for them to take the chance (I know it had a little extra footage, but not much). I know I went to see it, not having seen it on the big screen. That's the whole point of going to the cinema, right? Awesome sound, huge picture, a theatrical experience. Plus it would have the nostalgic element going for it. What are your opinions? And what movie would you pair it up with it? Would it work? I have a feeling it would work for a short period of time. Enough to justify the limited cost to promote it. I'd be stoked to see it on the big screen. Phantasm would probably have to be an opener rather than a headliner though. *(Try not to take this to literally, we know there's not a chance in hell that this would happen, but ponder the thought. This is the Phantasm site after all.

More movie theaters should be doing stuff like that even if it's just on occasion. Even outside of horror, there are older and contemporary classics that would draw a pretty good crowd.
A themed horror night at a drive in would be awesome! Phantasm with Texas Chainsaw and maybe a third feature for 70's horror or something.

I voted "maybe." I guess it depends on one's location. If Phantasm were paired with the original Halloween, I think it would do well....even in my area where people watch nothing but Frat Pack garbage & Paul Walker crap.

I dunno, I've actually never heard of this sort of thing implemented so it naturally sounds a bit alien to me. If it is rereleased, I certainly hope it is not with something like Halloween or The Thing! The latter choices are much too straightforward (Yeah, The Thing has some odd stuff, but it's mostly just monsters which are all attributed to the thing itself)! I would probably put it as the main attraction to the B-Movie SPOOKIES (Which had plenty of odd henchman as well as German sounding Tall Man lookalike!), or, it could be the B-movie accompanying A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (unfortunately) .

Elm Street would be a good one to show with Phantasm. As far as double features it's not done too often (you can probably find small theaters that show older double features and there's always the convention scene), but there have been a few movies rereleased in recent years. Star Wars was rereleased (sure with added footage, but there still would have been a buzz without) in the late 90's. They did the same with the Exorcist and ET. I think ET was the only one that bombed. As far as a wide spread release, I don't think Phantasm is the best choice, but it's perfect for 70's horror night at the drive in or a limited rerelease in some theaters. Cult fans are used to working harder to see movies in the theater. ;D

...If it is rereleased, I certainly hope it is not with...The Thing! (Yeah, The Thing has some odd stuff, but it's mostly just monsters which are all attributed to the thing itself)!... The Thing (re: supplemental features DVD) gained most of its popularity with the advent of the VCR (yes, that's the awesome Video Cassette Recorder). Meaning not many people went to the theatre to see it, so I think it would be a great choice. Also, it would offset the dream like quality that Phantasm has.
