I often wondered why the Tall Man would reanimate them? I don't recall him doing this with any other bodies during the course of the other films.
Why not turn them into Gravers or something and send them after Reggie and the Gang or even a Demon like we saw in P4.

He re-animated them because they had character & style! I think the $ sign gold necklace was a big factor in their re-animation.

I didn't really like the fact that he re-animated them. I just have issues with zombies.

He re-animated the bandits because:
A. They already had some bad blood against Tim and co. since, you know, he brutally killed them...
B. A mysterious lack of dwarves. Tally seemed to have no dwarf making tech at the moment, and really it seems like a better idea to re-animate 3 fully grown people to drive a car (referencing Tommy's dwarfy driving skills) and hunt down two full grown people and a heavily armed small one when everyone around them is already dead and thus no subtlety is needed.
Next point, they were basically Gravers, minus gasmasks or funeral-wear. Of course, I dunno whether or not gravers/caretakers are alive or not...
As for other reanimations: Liz's father and probably Alchemy

I didnt like the whole idea of the zombies. I think it was ridiculous. I would have rather seen the grave diggers chase them.

I thought they added a bit of slapstick comic relief to the movie although it had other bits of comedy in it.
And that dollar sign gold chain just speaks volumes. $$$$$

I didn't like the zombie concept. I think having an army of gravers chasing our heroes would have been better. Cindy Ambuehl, I think, should have been the female talent in this Phantasm film.

I'm probably the biggest zombie fan on these boards, and I can safely say that they detracted somewhat from Phantasm III. I still love the movie, but those 3 belonged in an episode of Tales From the Crypt... not Phantasm.

I think it would have been alot better having Gravers after them instead of 3 goofy Zombies.

There was that whole fleet of Gravers in Holtsville. The quad could have gotten a real work out.

I actualled the zombie characters in Phantasm III. I still can't get over Rufus' collection of goldchains & skin tight red shirt. Henry had some funny lines towards Tim after Tim disposed of Edna & Rufus. He was trying to be an intimdating hard ass but failed...he fell in one of Tim's traps then got capped by Tim. I especially loved their second deaths. The Jody-ball ripping off Rufus' head & it just flying through the air. Edna getting her face completely decimated by the golden sphere. And Henry...well it didn't show it but I'm sure it was a mess.

I like the way Rocky capped on him, "JEEEZ you're ugly!" As to the zombie problem: if I am not mistaken, the dwarves are nothing but reanimated zombies...they just happen to be short, scuttly and as Joe-Bob put it, look like monks.

Maybe The Tall Man thought they wouldn't be very useful as slaves in his dimension, so he didn't bother to take the time crushing them down to dwarf creature size.

It also seems like Tallman has disposable minions, that don't matter and get killed by the balls. Phantasm II, the mortician is killed by the gold sphere. Phantasm III, two of the zombies are killed by the spheres, not counting the one Jody's sphere kills.

I actually loved the Zombies, And this really isnt the first time we had seen Zombies in a Phantasm film, Remember Liz's Grandfather in PII, Or Remember the hands reaching up to get Mike from the ground in PI?

i thought the zombies where cheezey one of the great high points in III was the fact that the spheres were now cgi which was great when raggie told tim to tell mike that there were thousand of them! and we get to see them all!
