Nice. I think I'm happier that it'll put an end to the constant whining rather than it actually being out on DVD.

I second that, Neva Deadizzle.
Too bad I already have it on DVD....

I'm still not getting my hopes up because things are always subject to change. However, if that is correct, it says Sept 15th is the possible release date(?). That's a pretty cool birthday gift for me! Ha.

Since this is Universal, one of the most god-awful studios for special features when it comes to horror films, I'd advise everyone here not to expect much at all. I would be shocked if they worked out a deal with Anchor Bay to use any commentaries/featurettes/other extras that have been already produced.
But yes, very good reason to celebrate.

I'm sure it'll be barebones but it's better than nothing, I guess. Most of us have the special features from the Sphere set anyway so I'm not really complaining.

I'm sure Universal will put some special features (hopefully the commentary, Greg Nicotero featurette, trailer, and tv spots and hopefully a new documentary and behind-the-scenes footage). Still, I'm not complaining!

Still, I'm not complaining! Why are you so "sure"? I mean, look at their track record. The Halloween sequels, Child's Play franchise, Psycho sequels, Jaws 3/4 and most of the classic era. Those releases aren't exactly packing heat in the special features department, y'know? Expect nothing, I say.

A region 1 Phantasm 2 DVD is a region 1 Phantasm 2 DVD! This is fantastic news on an otherwise dull day, so GREAT find, bigphan1990!
The Never Dead: If you look at it another way, the whining is actually GOOD for 2 reasons:
1) It just might have been the reason for Universal pulling that huge stick out of their ***** and giving us this gem on DVD finally.
2) Any whining about wanting anything Phantasm is a good thing because it shows there's still interest and the community isn't dying down. :-)
Great news, indeed!

It's not good when you log onto this board(and various other Phantasm boards) & see it day in & day out. Maybe they released they'd make some money off of it & decided to release it. I'll get the DVD regardless.

It's not good when you log onto this board(and various other Phantasm boards) & see it day in & day out. Oh come on. That's a bit of an exaggeration, don't you think? I've been in the Phantasm online community since the conception of it, one way or another. I miss the hell out of the Phantasm Lair. But lets face it, any given Phantasm board on the net doesn't see as much action today as when this online thing first started. Facebook has a club for it and I'm told it has a pretty decent number of members....with something like only 2 posts total. My point is, it's nice there's any whining about it all. Believe me, I've seen my share of people lobbying for this thing since well, ever and granted, it can get tedious for some. But I personally welcome it because as I said, it just might have paid off in this case and it's bittersweet. Because now, all you're going to hear is whining about how Phantasm 5 isn't getting made. Now people's comments and pestering on that issue...I've found selfish and sickening. Not from this board either.

Yeah it's a great day for phans who have held out for a region 1 release. But as others have said, I fully expect this release to be bone dry. Still though, the insistent pleading by legions of phans will end! That, by far, is the BEST thing about this!

Only about 200 posts but it's a Facebook group for Phantasm, something that's not superly well-known although it should be. But I'm not going to argue any more about the whining thing. It's pretty much at an end now & I'm not going to change my stance on how I felt about it anyway. I'm just glad we aren't going to see 1000 posts about why Phantasm II isn't out or how we can pester Universal to put it out.

Those crap Universal releases, did they carry such a high price tag on them as well? $20 seems like alot to shell out for an overlooked sequel.

Hey, I don't care what is or isn't on the disc besides the movie...it's just great to see this thing slated for release. Nice. Very nice. Let's celebrate this; and then let's celebrate when the discs actually hit store shelves.

Apparently, Phantasm II cast and crew had no advance knowledge of this announcement. I have to wonder how much Don even knew about it. Again, doesn't bode well for special features.
Gave the Phantasm Archives a little facelift to mark the occasion.

2009 has been a good year for releasing a few in-demand horror movies on DVD. We got Slaughter High a few months ago although it's nothing more than the VHS being converted to DVD but it's better than nothing. Night of the Creeps is out in October. And now Phantasm II is out in September. The last few years have been pretty good overall for horror DVD releases. I hope they use this for the DVD cover: I wouldn't be surprised if we got some ugly, lame, & poorly Photoshopped cover.
