I'm just as surprised too! Didn't know about it until you kind folks posted it here. Delighted that Universal is giving it a DVD nod. But saddened that Anchor Bay can't be in on this to add it to a U.S. box set. Anyway, I'm keeping a "wait and see" attitude as far as everything else. Mostly, just feeling relief. Got a good laugh about Mrs. LeGros' wonderfully amusing response! ;D

2009 has been a good year for releasing a few in-demand horror movies on DVD. We got Slaughter High a few months ago although it's nothing more than the VHS being converted to DVD but it's better than nothing. Night of the Creeps is out in October. And now Phantasm II is out in September. The last few years have been pretty good overall for horror DVD releases. I hope they use this for the DVD cover: I wouldn't be surprised if we got some ugly, lame, & poorly Photoshopped cover. I agree. Hopefully they do use that cover. I was actually hoping that when Anchor Bay re-released Phantasm 3, they would've went with the original VHS cover on that as well. I mean don't get me wrong, the AB one is nice, but personally I love the original VHS version. It's just a really cool cover that I have a bit of an attachment to. I remember when it first came out...I was out shopping around with my parents in a town that was like, 50 miles away and I'd seen it while browsing a video rental place. That was the first time I'd found out P3 came out. Oh man, I can't explain what an adrenaline rush that gave me. However, it completely bummed me out because at the same time, I knew I wasn't going to be allowed to rent it. And I was a bit too young at the time to get my license, much less my own car. hehe

I'm not really sure what to think. I'm sure everyone here knows how I feel about Phantasm II by now but I almost feel disappointed, largely because Universal is releasing it. I was watching They Live they other day and they didn't even put the trailer on it. Granted it's not really a horror flick but anything even remotely horror related all seem to have the same DVD with a few exceptions.
Even so, I'm thrilled I don't have to use a DVD recorded off of Cinemax anymore.

Bare Bones or not I am getting this. I've waited too long and even seen R2 dvd's and sphere sets comes out while waiting.
I'll pick this up for 2 reasons it is something related to Phantasm and I need it to complete my non sphere set of Phantasm.

I'll pick this up for 2 reasons it is something related to Phantasm and I need it to complete my non sphere set of Phantasm. Same here. I have the MGM releases of Phantasm & Phantasm: oblIVion in addition to the Anchor Bay releases of Phantasm, Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead, & Phantasm: oblIVion. This upcoming Phantasm II is essential to complete that particular collection in addition to finally completing my region 1 collection of the Phantasm series. I still need to get Phantasm III on tape so I can have all four on VHS. However, it completely bummed me out because at the same time, I knew I wasn't going to be allowed to rent it. And I was a bit too young at the time to get my license, much less my own car. hehe Although I actually dig the Phantasm III DVD cover, I wouldn't mind the VHS cover art being used either. That's the cover I remember most since Phantasm III was the first Phantasm film I saw & because that's the cover I remember grabbing to rent at the video store almost every week when I was a kid until I was a young teenager.

I went to the Phantasm Archives and it said the Phantasm II DVD release was September 27th, 2007. Dustin, can you please fix the date to September 15th, 2009? Thanks.

Thanks Dustin. But the date says September 15th, 2007. It's supposed to be September 15th, 2009. You just need to change 2007 to 2009. Again, thanks.
