That the book was released just before part V was out, stroke my mind as well - good, bad?
I find it's good that the book is out now before the new movie - adding lots to the hype of a new movie and 1000 of new discussions just before part V, and then a new discussion phase after the movie. With the book in hand, we all will be more than ready to take a deep dive into RaVanger!
Maybe there will be a second edition, including more of part V in the future...
Bad? I really can't see it -- if a second edition would come out -- the phans needed this book asap! And maybe the book would have come in the shadow of the new movie discussions, so, for the author of the book, I really think he did a good decision. If the book is done, why wait on a movie that might take x months or even years to come out? Waiting I think would have been a bad decision. Also the excitement of all the "WHAT IF", "WHAT WILL THE NEW MOVIE BE LIKE" that is so strong throughout the book would then needed to be changed into a book about the saga being finished.
Only my humble opinion... lol.
And, yes the book looks great standing next to my english dvd collection sphere, and my boxed Tall man action figure (though the action figure doesn't look like Angus, but the dwarf is very cool).

I have sent you a email Dustin no reply as yet. Steve. Actually, you sent me a private message here on the forum, which is why I was slow to respond as I didn't see it. I did shoot you an email, however! Sorry about the fontsize, HellnBack. I tried to pack as much into the book as possible without it approaching 400 pages. I do recognize that the font is pretty small. And cool to hear your opinion, FantasyBall. Yes, I wanted to get it out in advance of Ravager. It might take years for Ravager to fully resonate with fans and even the filmmakers before it can be thoroughly discussed in context with the other films. Having time between the other four film's releases and the book allowed for some perspective.

Shameless self-plug: An interview I did with the Loud Idiots radio program (how appropriate!) came online today. I discuss Exhumed, a little Ravager, etc. Host was a genuine phan, so it was nice talking to someone who knew their stuff. Listen to the interview here

I just listened to Dustin's loud Idiot's Phantasm Exhumed interview. I liked hearing the story behind Angus Scrimm's filmmaking diaries. When I heard of the red book I thought of Tolkien's Red Book of West march. maybe someday Dustin can get him to put out an illustrated copy with plenty of behind the scenes photo's by Kristen Deem. I did not like hearing about the discourteous movie fans that yelled Boy!! at Mike Baldwin.

I just wanted to say that I got "Exhumed" a little over a week ago and having gone through it, and it's wealth of information, it is really the definitive Phantasm resource. It is a book any Phantasm fan should own. So I just wanted to say thank you for writing a great book.

I noticed when the book first went on sale on Amazon, they already had some books that were being sold as "used". One seller was actually selling the PE book for $38. what's the deal with that? Is it because it could be shipped worldwide? I still see some of the books being sold as used and for a higher price than if you bought it brand new. I just don't understand.

I have no idea. Only reasons I could imagine the book being sold for more than the SRP would be worldwide shipping (as you suggested) or being cast-signed.

Great book and I love mine but I am sure glad I didn't bring mine to Monsterpalooza to have it signed because there was a guy in line in front of me with two of them and Don Coscarelli didn't want anything to do with it. Said he wasn't signing them because it was unauthorized. Lucky for this guy he had already paid and Don made an exception but told his handler no more after this. It's too bad that Mr Coscarelli feels this way about the book.

I guess you'll just have to ask him. Like I said... he seemed put off due to the fact it was unauthorized. But for us fans its a dream come true. The book is great. I enjoyed it very much. But being close to Don's age, I would probably do the same thing. If he didn't authorize it for whatever reason, I wouldn't sign any books either. I'm surprised he even signed a few. He's about Coscarelli's daughter's age. My guess is Dustin isn't really part of the crew. Don't want to sound mean and I apologize. Dustin's website is fantastic and he really did alot of research and work on his book. He's also close with the crew. In reality he is just a fan. I think if it was Kristen that wrote the book or Reggie, or any other member that was part of the crew or in the films it would have been a different story. But I also heard Reggie was supposed to write a book. Don't know if that was a rumor or they decided not to do it.

Also Gigi Bannister has some writing talent.
