Dustin,
It was great hanging with Kris at Son of Monsterpalooza as I got to see all the different people come up to her that knew of her part in Exhumed and would tell her how the great the book is and how they loved her pictures and stories.

No disrespect to Dustin and his hard work on the book, but after thinking about it, I guess Don's feelings on the book are warranted. Having someone other than yourself profit off of your biography/life's work would be a bit infuriating to say the least.
I am glad that Dustin did get the book out there though. It is truly a wealth of information that may have never seen the light of day. The only real con about the book for me is the physical size of it. It was quite unwieldy trying to read it while lying down. Any news on the possibility of a forthcoming ebook version?

It was quite unwieldy trying to read it while lying down. Any news on the possibility of a forthcoming ebook version? No offense taken, truly. This is all interesting speculation, but there is a lot of untold politics behind the franchise that affected the book that I can't talk about. Fact really is stranger than fiction and as (I think) Mike warned in P3 or P4, nothing is ever as it seems. I looked really closely at doing an ebook, but the formatting issues bugged me to death. This is not just a text book - it was meant from the earliest stages to be paired with hundreds of photos and the ebook formats didn't give a lot of freedom with that. So no ebook on the horizon. But the color, hardcover edition is starting to take form and that's an exciting development. Thirty pages of additional photos/content!

Good. I was attempting at posting my thoughts on what Don might be thinking without sounding like a total jerk. Hopefully someday you can share the inside scoop on those politics. That's a shame about the no go on the ebook. However, not doing this will save you from it getting pirated all over the place. So, definitely a plus there. Thanks for all your hard work on this book. It truly was an excellent read. Now all I need to complete my Coscarelli obsession is a real release of Jim the World's Greatest and maybe a mint condition 70/71 Hemicuda.

I just order my copy today....first of all by the time Don gets around to doing any book, if they still exist in hardcover forum a number of the principals might not be with US. Something which records, especially Angus, away from source means total freedom of thought. That his history cannot be controlled by one person, such as Don. I will buy BOTH any books which are good. Thank you for hard work on this and every Phan project. Over the years I have met the entire cast several times, my Fav memory was the triple showing of Phan 1-3 with a lot of cast members in LA...great showing. This, like "boyhood" is a lifetime project...I think the cast and crew know this....my prediction...5 will be the best of the lot..my rankings are 1-first-groundboard of everything we know and learn second , 4- because of its triple meaning, use of the first one also and it is very easy to watch muli-times like 1. Third is #2-probaly the best shot...I would like to see a directors cut of that one- with the Xtrafootage which is out there. Fourth is the Third which is a good movie..but a bridge. Dustin, I put my money where my mouth is today...Thank you, Mitch

Mitch, thanks for your kind post. You're really onto something in that being unauthorized meant I was able to tell numerous stories in Phantasm Exhumed that will never make an "official" book or DVD commentary or interview. In the world of Phantasm, Don has always had a tight grip on the controlled release of information. Exhumed disrupted that quite a bit.

Hey Dustin,
Just out of curiosity, since the book was unauthorized and contains certain info Don may have not wanted leaked, did he at one point try to stop you from writing the book? Also because the book has been so well received do you think that he's still unhappy about it existing? Do you think he's read it?

Also because the book has been so well received do you think that he's still unhappy about it existing? Do you think he's read it? Not so directly, but he was very clear he wouldn't be participating. A few people I contacted told me they weren't supposed to talk to me. And to clarify, I didn't really "leak" very much except where Ravager's origins were concerned. I just told stories that Don hasn't ever been interested in telling from people that have never gotten to speak on their involvement. It's not like my book revealed drug use, extramarital affairs, back stabbing, creative theft or anything else like that. And yes, pretty sure he's still unhappy. I get at least one email after every convention from people who try to get their book signed and Don is the only person who won't sign it. I know Don keeps his finger on the pulse of all things Phantasm, so I imagine he's read it. I hope he would have read it. It's arguably the most extensive thing ever written about his films and showers huge love on his first two pre-Phantasm movies.

I believe Dustin that the book needed to be written...as of now it is all we have besides the Kate "novel of the film" as well as a comic book. Don has always been a trend setter...I can recall the phantasm laser disc box set with the CD which I bought and at the time it was one of the best laser disc releases ever. But practically everybody has a book to write..the real issue is doing it...and you did, and I thank you for that. There is no guarantee that this is it...you book is the only one...I just hope, possible if don ever decides not to write his book, that he picks you to write a combined edition which will knock it out of the park. I have talked to GiGI several times in person, and we will not be disappointed in 5 and that is what is taking so long. After five is released, how about approaching don for a reprint of all the aborted scripts(including avery) for every sequel. That would be great or a new novel....thanks again...waiting for the red planet color edition.....and I am sure Don has added one in his collection....

I received the book today...it was larger than I thought it would be......5 stars on this one...well worth the money and the wait. The hardcover materials are first class...the future exhumed section is worth the price of the book alone....very well done...thanks for being such a PHAN.

Hey Dustin & gang, I got my Red Planet edition today at work! I LOVE it! And especially the color photos! Great job Dustin! Coming from one who worked on the sequels (except P2 & P5), I really enjoyed rekindling those Phantasm memories!

Hi Dustin, Is there a way to confirm that a book has shipped? It has been three weeks today that I ordered and it's getting harder and harder to wait! ;-) Are these shipped USPS or UPS/FedEx? Thanks,
