Ok, at the end of P4 when Reggie goes through the dimension forks and it cuts to a shot of Mike and Reggie back in the 70's on his ice cream truck. Does it infer that....
Reggie has travelled back in time to try to stop things happening the way they did the first time (in which case there could be 2 Reggies)
or
Has Reggie just followed the Tall Man to wherever he's off to?
And also, they both hear a strange noise and Mike says it's just the wind but they both look as though they both know what the noises are, but say nothing to each other.
Any explanations or insights?? I'm confused again (doesn't take much)

I guess that ending is like a take it however you want to.
Reggie could have jumped through and defeated the Tall Man Reggie could have gone back in time and there is 2 Reggie's Could just be Mike thinking back before his body dies
I mean there are so many possibilities and none of them are for sure which I think is a great thing and falls right in line with the Phantasm series has always been about.

I like to think that Mike as we know him was dying and the transformation was nearing completion. In his agonizing pain, he remembered one of his happier moments. Also always dug the one about Reggie going back and stopping the Tall Man from exisiting.... therefor time went back to 1979.

I think that Reggie went back in time to 1979 in order to stop the Tall Man from existing.
It's a vague ending that gives us a lot to think about so it could pretty much be anything really.

but wouldn't he have had to go all the way back to stop Jeb Morningside first?

Remember how when Jody and Mike were on the beach, Mike could hear what was going on with Reggie at the hearse through the spacegate. What if Mike and Reggie from 1979 heard their conversation from 1998 through a spacegate that might have been near by? But with that, I would assume that that would be mean Reggie went back to 1979, but why? As MrsLeGross said, to stop the Tall Man, Reg would have to go back to Jeb.
Sometimes I don't know what I'm saying.

But as Mike finds out from the Tall Man in P4 'I go where I want you to go'
Maybe when Reg follows the Tall Man they don't go to the same place and Reggie ends up back at the start!?

I dont think when reggie and mike jumped through the spacegate that they went back to 1979. i think that shot of the film wanted you to assume that. In a whole it could have a number of meanings. they could have went back to that time, or the shot was telling you that they were in the present and none of what we had seen through all the phantasm films had happened yet but everything we had watched and stuff was just the future of whats going to happen. i really dont just a terrible terrible opinion. thatswhy im intrested on seeing what road P5 is going to ake and how they are going to continue from P4

It's the ending of the fourth in this fantastic series....leading us to want more...and as always with Don's great abilities...leaves us to ask questions...and try to draw conclusions.....which just leads to more........I say...Don....keep em coming!

I've been thinking and I recall when P4 came out and the ending thinking to myself this is probably the best ending if this is the last movie that I have ever seen.
It doesn't wrap alot up but it goes back to the begining and just the way Don used that original footage was perfect Mike and Reggie driving off into the dark.

P4 was a great ending indeed. I always like the idea of going back to the beginning. P1 was the best and I hope P5 can bring back some of that feel from the original.

O yeah, that was defintely fantastic! I hope they can use more of the sounds and music from the original as these were slightly altered in later films. The original soundtrack was the best and would make this film all the better.

What's really going through my mind is at the very end of P4, The Tall Man picked up Reggie and said,
"Ice cream man, it's all in his head."
Who does the "his" refer to?

I think "his" refers to Mike and his dreams. One way I have interpreted the end of the movie is that, in fact, everything was a dream and that this is why Mike tells Reg in the ice cream truck that it is only the wind. Just one man's interpretation though.

That was kind of what I had in mind. And maybe Mike was controlling all that has happened and he didn't know he was doing it.

What's really going through my mind is at the very end of P4, The Tall Man picked up Reggie and said, "Ice cream man, it's all in his head." Who does the "his" refer to? What about Jody in part 3....DRY LAKE BED SCENE Reggie "Where are we?" Jody "Somewhere in your mind" Could these movies be Reggie's phantasm all along?.....

Interesting interpretation. Maybe we thought this was all about Mike fearing the loss of Jody and everything that takes place after. Maybe its about Reg's fear of losing Mike...

Or he's realised that he was always going to lose Mike, just through being philosophical about it and the meeting on the salt lake bed is all a manfistation of all his anxieties. In dream form.
