In later years, I've come to the same conclusion that most zombie fans have in regards to the GAR series--that the concept or idea of the zombie apocalypse is much better than what we've actually seen on screen over the years. One funny thing about watching Day on DVD as opposed to down and dirty VHS--when watching it on DVD, the SFX are fake as HELL! LOL! It's so painfully obvious that the zombie extras are just bunch of chumps in make-up...and you can see just where the make-up ends and the real person begins! ;D As for Day having better SFX than Dawn--well...it better have! Savini learned alot in the seven years between the flicks. But, in Dawn's defense...I liked the gags they pulled off in that one. The flick is a fantasy to begin with, and it really doesn't bother me that some of the stuff was a little off. In fact, I think it's all part of it's charm. If only we could say the same thing about GAR's "screenwriting". Oh I totally agree about DAWN. The cheesy/campy effects are indeed part of the charm.

Cameo appearances In Land Of The Dead
Director George Romero's voice can be heard as one of the puppeteers in the "Punch & Judy" stand in the village, shouting "Take that, you smelly zombie!"
George Romero's daughter, Christina Romero, makes an appearance as a soldier and is credited as the "High noon soldier."
Gregory Nicotero, who is the second unit director, make-up artist and special effects supervisor for the film, also belongs to the small elite of people who have appeared in more than one of Romero's zombie movies. He is the bridgekeeper zombie in Land of the Dead, while playing Private Johnson in Day of the Dead and the Surgeon Zombie in Diary of the Dead.
Tom Savini can be briefly seen as a zombie (credited as "Machete Zombie"), reprising his character Blades from Dawn of the Dead. This marks the first time an actor has reprised a role in a Romero zombie movie.
Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright have cameos as the photo zombies, due to Romero's love of their affectionate zombie send-up Shaun of the Dead. They also appear on the official movie poster and Director's Cut DVD. Pegg would later make a voice over cameo in Diary of the Dead.
During the scene on the water front (when the zombies stand before the river overlooking the city), a goofy-looking bald zombie from Dawn of the Dead can be seen as Big Daddy emerges. He is stepping back as Big Daddy steps forward.

I've always found the whole "various versions" aspect of the original Dawn to be aggrivating, to say the least. They release four or five different versions on DVD that are only slightly different from each other--maybe a different soundtrack, or an extra minute or two of footage...and then charge us up the ass for them just to keep GAR in McDonald's Dollar Meals. And, it's like they're re-releasing it every couple of years, just to milk us more. Ditto for Halloween.

Thanks Gopher. I thought the cover art looked a little phoney.
I'm willing to spend $20, if it's legit. Not for something someone downloaded and burned. I can do that for free. I really like the library tracks, corny, cheesy, and awesome.

I just recently picked up Land of the Dead SE pretty cheap on Amazon ($3.99), and I must say, with all the "occupy" movements happening around the world, that this movie really works on a lot of levels. From the dialogue, profession, and attributes of the Dennis Hopper character, to even what the reflection of the giant skyscraper on the water might indicate.
I think it's really well produced.
