Diary of the Dead... Boy am I glad that's over. The first thing that struck a chord with me was the CG blood, are you kidding? Romero could have done better, a lot better. Really disappointed. It makes Land look like a masterpiece. I guess that all we can hope for is a better film next time. Romero needs to go back to a simpler film, no CG. The trilogy came out great without CG and so can current films.

After the crapfest of Land, I didn't even bother with Diary. I honestly believe that George Romero has been skating on an undeserved rep for forty years.

Land for me wasn't that bad, but it's starting to look like his downfall. Night, Dawn and Day were amazing. Land was okay and Diary is a stinker. Did I mention that Dawn was amazing?

It's sad to say, but yeah DIARY is almost painful to watch. The whole thing was just poorly executed. CG blood/gunshots? Bad "teen" actors? Crappy story?
This is NOT the George Romero I love. But I can't blame it ALL on him... I'm sure plenty of other people have their say on what types of effects to use and how to use them.
*sigh*
It's just a shame that nothing will ever come close to touching DAWN or DAY. Those are true masterpieces, and I don't use the term masterpiece lightly at all. Those films were d**n near perfect.

I almost ejected the DVD about 3 times. I toughed it out. Good thing I got it from Netflix and didn't spend the $20 on it.
The actors were terrible. The only thing I really enjoyed in the movie was the zombie pulling down that girls dress, sad I know.
It kind of pissed me off at the end where he made the "retro" logo. This shouldn't even be associated with the other films. I read on IMDB that he is making a sequel, perhaps he should let Tom Savini take the drivers seat for that one. I want old school SFX, not CG dammit!

if you look closely enough, one of the actors from Land is in Diary

I think I'm the only person here that liked Diary. It's the weakest of the Dead Films by far but I enjoyed it. I would've liked it better if there was no CGI in it or if the CGI was very minimal.
George's first there Dead movies are untouchable. I went into Land & Diary knowing that those three couldn't be touched. Perhaps that's another reason why I enjoyed it.
I bet Diary is better than "There's Always Vanilla," which I haven't seen yet. I also haven't seen Season of the Witch.

Don't get me wrong... I don't really like DIARY, but it did have some good moments. The Amish guy, in particular.
Oh and about that sequel to DIARY, that's just speculation. Romero has stated that nothing has been planned as far as a sequel. The same speculation came up after LAND came out... although in that instance, Romero did say he was interested in making a sequel.

i wanted to see Diary at the cinema over here in England, but they only showed it at certain cinemas It had a limited release here in the States as well. It came out the day before my birthday & I wanted to see it pretty badly. Had to wait until DVD to finally see it. I don't know if K-Mart is still selling their bundle of Diary & the new NOTLD DVD for $25 but it's a good deal if you come across it. The new Night DVD is great.

The original Dawn of the Dead is a great flick....but by todays standards it really isn't much of a much--most people who see it for the first time now think it's a little slow and unscary.
When GAR is dead and gone, I actually think that it'll be Dawn...and not NOTLD...that he'll be remembered by.

I find it strange that Romero's personal favorite from the DEAD films is DAY. I really don't get it.
I mean I could definitely understand if it was NIGHT, and I wouldn't find it odd at all if it was DAWN. But for some reason, the fact that he likes DAY (as great as it is) best just perplexes me!

While I find Day entertaining, I think that it's pretty much a chunk of crap.
It's pretty much just a vehicle for Savini SFX.

Fair enough, fair enough.
I do agree that DAY has some of the best effects in d**n near any horror movie, let alone zombie film. I think the effects are better than both LAND and DIARY.

Fair enough, fair enough. I do agree that DAY has some of the best effects in d**n near any horror movie, let alone zombie film. I think the effects are better than both LAND and DIARY. Judging from what I've heard, Day is better in most ways compared to Land and Diary. Day was a claustrophobic drama. We may not always see the zombies, but we know they're everywhere, unlike in Land where they're basically a nuisance to be easily gunned down by heavily armed vigilantes. In Day we have a true, hopeless, hardly a "fight", for survival. Land was "when will everything in the isolated human world go down the tubes like it always does in the dead films?". I haven't seen Diary yet but from what I've heard it's basically "teens vs. CGI zombies, NOTLD remake 3: Cloverfield style". The "last stand" atmosphere as well as the superior makeup is what pushes Day just a little above Dawn for me.

In later years, I've come to the same conclusion that most zombie fans have in regards to the GAR series--that the concept or idea of the zombie apocalypse is much better than what we've actually seen on screen over the years. One funny thing about watching Day on DVD as opposed to down and dirty VHS--when watching it on DVD, the SFX are fake as HELL! LOL! It's so painfully obvious that the zombie extras are just bunch of chumps in make-up...and you can see just where the make-up ends and the real person begins! ;D As for Day having better SFX than Dawn--well...it better have! Savini learned alot in the seven years between the flicks. But, in Dawn's defense...I liked the gags they pulled off in that one. The flick is a fantasy to begin with, and it really doesn't bother me that some of the stuff was a little off. In fact, I think it's all part of it's charm. If only we could say the same thing about GAR's "screenwriting".
